2024 NBA Draft Reaction Thread

No, but we do need to pay Lauri and as much as I like Lauri, it might turn into a Beal situation where Utah is forced to bend the knee because there are no other options.
I will readily admit that I don't know what the best option is with Lauri. If he plays a lot, he actively undermines the tank. If you trade him, there's no way to get comparable value. When you trade away a star you immediately begin the process of trying to figure out how to land the next star.

Its a tough call, that is made all the more difficult by the way the team has managed the past two years.

Yeah, therein lies the rub. For me, it's better to rip the band-aid off and get what we can just because its a.) undermining the tank, b.) we're not actively working on a timeline that goes with his age or contract, and c.) we have no real set direction other than "actively looking for trades" which is part of a plan, but should not BE the plan.

The west is a beast we can tank while having Markkanen on the team. We may have three rookies, just don’t add any other actual nba vets use the three rookies and the three sophomores Lauri and Sexton. Find a way to unload Collins and JC and the jazz will lose plenty of games. If we end with a 5-7 spot in the lotto that’s perfect.

So, the one wrinkle here is that Ryan wants to keep making money. He wants to keep selling tickets, and jerseys, and tshirts, water bottles, etc. and Lauri is a big part of that. And of course, Ryan is trying to convince state lawmakers to use public funds to pay for the little kingdom he's trying to build downtown. Tanking doesn't help that.

Use all of the space we have for a Lauri renegotiate and extend deal. Take him up to his max this year. Then get a flat max on the future years and I think the money overall is equal. Cap grows 10% each year and the contract is a bargain. Get less if he will take it but that is by far the highest and best use of our cap space this year. This is the most important part of our offseason. Don't mess it up. I am okay trading him if we get that Bridges offer... can't let him become a unrestricted FA.

He's already convinced the state of that. He needs to convince SLC, which shouldn't be an issue. As for the rest, he should understand there's a time to cashout on a product for the sake of a longer term gain.

I think you obviously re-sign/extend him.
Then you either trade him or keep him and tank. If you keep him and tank then you limit his minutes and his back to back games and you play all the youngest dudes enormous minutes.

Very disappointed in this board. I come here for information as I don’t follow the college game… and yet, here we are with two picks and not a single person has weighed in on if either player has good hand pads or not. Focus people.
Hand pads OK, proprioception good with Collier, questionable with WIlliams... both unreal FT form.

There were a few leftover guys from the DL to DA era. One guy mentioned hand pads and they were all murdered Dr. Evil style on spot.

Cities giving billionaires money is such a dirty business. How can he answer the question "I am honest in my dealings with my fellow man." when he is constantly working to screw over every single tax payer in the state. Not to mention how that affects the chastity question! Good thing for him that church stuff is just made up ********, but still!

For as weak as this draft was being touted as they sure did get two nice assets for pick 8. 2030 pick swap and 2031 unprotected first.
They got 2 unprotected Wolves picks following right after the year Anthony Edwards' contract expires. They might even be able to use those to trade for Edwards if they feel like he's a goner in 2029 or something...

Its just such a far out pick... Wemby may be out the door by then. If it was a mid round pick I could be down but Spurs are in a place where they should take bites at the apple now.

Completely agree. No reason taxpayers should be funding stadiums. I think everyone knows that if it was put up to a general election public funding would lose overwhelmingly. So instead you just grease a few palms of elected officials, and VOILA! you get a billion dollars for free.

For a guy that actively cultivates an image as a goofy hipster Mormon computer nerd, Ryan clearly has a megalomaniacal streak.

I imagine that is par for the course when you are essentially born into the position that will make you more money than well over a thousand people combined will ever see in their lifetime. Never see a day in your life that your money is in question, other than what position you are in on the big board. So instead of turning to drugs, you turn to your standard billionaire hobbies...owning sports teams.

Not sure this has been mentioned but our Summer League team has serious potential - Collier-Keyonte-Williams-Hendricks-Kessler(?!)/Lofton...

Should be fun, but the thing for people to remember is that the summer leagues who win the tournament are the teams filled with fringe NBA players. Any player who is actually expected to have a rotation spot on a team gets pulled early as soon as they show out.

Yeah. I'd be good with Keyonte and Hendricks showing out in SLC and then giving way to the new guys to play in Vegas.
