The Biden Administration and All Things Politics

I thought it was over in the first 15 minutes. Had same reaction as many, apparently, namely Biden is toast….

“In text messages with POLITICO, Democrats expressed confusion and concern as they watched the first minutes of the event. One former Biden White House and campaign aide called it “terrible,” adding that they have had to ask themselves over and over “What did he just say? This is crazy.”

Another veteran Democratic operative texted, “Biden seems to have needed a few minutes to warm up. I wonder if the lack of an audience was the right decision. And poor guy needs a tea. Maybe a whiskey.”

Jay Surdukowski, an attorney and Democratic activist from New Hampshire who co-chaired Martin O’Malley’s 2016 presidential campaign in the state, said, “Biden is toast — calling it now.”

I only saw about 10 minutes of it. I thought trump won the 10 minutes I saw. He lied over and over (his mouth was moving after all) and he wouldn't answer the questions that the moderators were asking him but he was still better than Biden.

Meh. Who cares? Not a single vote was changed tonight. And it’ll probably be forgotten in a few days anyway. I’m old enough to remember when President Kerry destroyed bush in a debate and when president Romney destroyed Obama. Debates don’t matter. Even less now that we have these two old known commodities. Besides, We’ve already memory holed Russian collusion, blackmailing Zelenskyy, and Jan 6. This will be forgotten by next week.

And for those wondering how we got here? Do you really think we’d have the same candidates if we didn’t have the electoral college?

None of those losses were of this magnitude.

Dems need to pivot to a new candidate.

Anyone who thinks Biden will be competent over the next 4 years after seeing his decline in the first term is delusional.

And I am 100% never Trump.

Call me a bedwetter, I think I am seeing the situation realistically. This was disastrous.

This is a coup. The powers that told you this was right-wing conspiracy garbage are the powers gearing up to put a fresh face on this. Probably will be successful since the same media will have something more polished to gush over.

You are usually a good poster, but please don't blow smoke up our asses. It's this kind of gas lighting chasing me away from Dems. We saw what we saw. Kerry/Obama debates have 0% to do with this. Biden ain't gonna pick up his game next time. Or, ever.

Oh noes. I’m chasing you away from the Dems! Whatever shall I do? My feelings are big hurt now Cuz I love the Dems!

What impact do debates have on our hyper polarized elections? Trump was recently convicted of felonies and it moved the needle maybe 1-2 pts. Think this debate will move the needle more? And here in a few weeks once Donald is sentenced, who’ll be remembering this debate?

Aside from Trump talking about his big hands, does anyone remember anything from any previous debate in 2016? What was the zinger that Biden gave in 2020 that pushed him over the top? What did Obama say in 2012 that won it? What did Bush say in 2004 or 2000 that won you over?

Zero votes were flipped last night. And it’ll be forgotten just as most things are in politics in a few days. Those already with concerns about Biden’s age probably had their feelings confirmed. Those with concerns about Trump’s lying probably had their concerns validated. The debate flipped zero votes. It won’t matter come November.

There's no recovering from this. The bottom line is Biden is going to lose based on this debate alone. Does a single person believe Biden can serve out another term? Time to either pivot to another candidate ASAP or hand the Presidency to an authoritarian traitor. We are in a dire situation.

I believe this is unrealistic. Last night was absolutely devastating for Biden, IMHO. No sugar coating this. 15 minutes in, I knew it was over.

Black Americans are demanding to know what “Black jobs” are after former President Trump used the phrase in Thursday’s debate with President Biden in Atlanta.

In response to the first 2024 general election debate’s only question on Black voters, Trump took a shot at Biden’s immigration stance.

“The fact is that his big kill on the Black people is the millions of people that he’s allowed to come in through the border,” Trump said. “They’re taking Black jobs now and it could be 18, it could be 19 and even 20 million people. They’re taking Black jobs, and they’re taking Hispanic jobs, and you haven’t seen it yet, but you’re gonna see something that’s going to be the worst in our history.”

Black social media users immediately demanded an explanation of what constitutes a “Black job.”

“What exactly are Black and Hispanic Jobs!?!” the NAACP posted to X.

Jaime Harrison, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, agreed, posting: “What the hell is a “Black job?!”

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) said that she wished CNN’s moderators had asked for clarification on the comment.

“I still don’t understand the ‘black job’ comment, it would have been nice if there was a follow up to understand what he was trying to say,” Omar posted.

Meanwhile, some took a more humorous route to express their confusion.

“Well, now that the debate is over. Time for us all to get ready for bed so we can be on time to our #BlackJobs tomorrow,” BlackPAC, an organization dedicated to building Black political power, posted along with a meme of actress Viola Davis removing her makeup.

Trump’s comments came in response to CNN moderator Dana Bash asking Biden about what he has done for Black voters, particularly as there appears to be growing dissatisfaction with his White House among the demographic.

Biden, in his response, hit on historically low Black unemployment rates under his administration.

According to the White House, from September 2022 to this February, the Black unemployment rate remained at or below 6 percent. In April 2023, the unemployment rate for Black workers dropped to 4.8 percent. In April this year, the unemployment rate for Black Americans was 5.6 percent.

Under Trump, between 2016 and 2020, the Black unemployment rate was about 8 percent. From 2000 to 2015, it was 11 percent.

In post-debate coverage with NBC, Sen. Tim Scott (S.C.), the upper chamber’s only Black Republican and a possible Trump running mate, tried to dodge questions on what the former president meant by “Black jobs.”

NBC News’s Tom Llamas asked Scott if phrases like “Black jobs and Hispanic jobs” offend some American voters, but the senator said no.

“Here’s what I can tell you is that whether you are a Black person or white person or a Hispanic person or any person, Native American, but whatever, you want are more jobs,” said Scott. “You want your wages going up, and what we saw under Donald Trump was at the bottom quintile of wage earners saw their wages go up faster than the top quintile. That translates into more spending power. But under Joe Biden, we’ve seen the exact opposite: $28,000 of lost spending power over the last three and a half years. So you can talk about Black jobs versus white jobs. I think the bottom line is Donald Trump provided more American jobs.”

Black social media users appeared unhappy with Thursday’s debate, with some even going as far as calling it the “whitest debate” they’d ever seen after Biden and Trump began talking about golf and arguing about their handicaps.

“The caucasity of this debate is taking me OUT,” said David Johns, CEO and executive director of the National Black Justice Coalition, a civil rights organization dedicated to the empowerment of Black LGBTQ people.

“If this is not the whitest s— I’ve ever experienced in my life I don’t know what is!” Johns exclaimed.

Both Biden and Trump are courting Black voters, though Biden leads Trump with the demographic.

Lol. This was not like any other debate. To insinuate this will blow over is complete ignorance. This will add to the lasting stain on the democrat party. It may not flip votes to Trump, but it definitely is flipping votes away from the party. This has zero to do with any lasting sound bites. This has everything to do with the dems putting a senile, one foot in the grave, feeble minded puppet as the their best candidate.

I’ve heard this said a few times about political events in the last 10 years. Yet somehow, the nation memory holes literally all of these things within a few days. The people who were pro Trump are probably still pro Trump today. This who were anti Trump are probably still anti Trump today. It’s funny to hear how one debate supersedes inflation, economy, etc after years of hearing about how all of those things superseded anything Biden or Trump said. So stop gaslighting me and telling me that some debate that most Americans will never watch is somehow the deciding factor. Had Trump been destroyed in this debate, would anyone here be claiming that the campaign was over? Would it even impact things by one percentage pt? We all know the answer to these questions.

And like most healthy Americans yesterday, I didn’t watch the debate. Why? Because my mind is made up already. Again, like most Americans. I spent my evening hanging out with my lil 17 month old boy. Relax. If you don’t live in Wisconsin, Michigan, or Pennsylvania, it really doesn’t matter what you think anyway. Isn’t the electoral college cool?

Go out, enjoy the economy, the weather is nice, enjoy the great country. The next six months is going to be non-stop horse race between two candidates that no one wants to see more of.

“Democrat party”

lol.
