Unless you figure that the bottom falls out of GSW in the next few years even after trading them Lauri.
I feel like even after they bottom out, they’ll have the green light to spend what it takes to build it back up again. 99% sure Minnesota and Atlanta do not have that mandate. Those picks are more valuable - if SAS is willing to spend that much. I’m not sure I’m buying that they will pull the trigger on that type of deal tbh.

I’m not sure why we would make that assumption at this point; they almost landed PG yesterday, and have an owner that is willing to spend more than basically anyone else in the league

I'll reiterate my belief that the 2025 draft is extremely deep with all star level talent, but maybe not MVP level talent whereas the 2026 draft has the MVP level guys, but I'm not sure how deep it is.

Having multiple picks in 2025 could result in multiple all star level players.

I don't think they can trade 25 or 31 unprotected, those must be swaps.
If they get the pick back from Washington they could trade the 2031 unprotected.

In 2025 we could just say they get the lesser of the four picks we will own.

What is wilding? Is the price for a star 'missing piece' player league wide going to go down in the near future?
A big piece of trading Lauri is our own pick in 2025 and 2026 improving. If we’re going to trade him now is the time to do so.

But how are they getting their pick back from WAS? The 2030 pick makes 2029 and 2031 untradeable, only in swaps. 2025 can only be swapped bc they already traded 2024.

In a few years Paul George will be 37 and Steph will be 39. Draymond’s always been a ceiling raiser not a floor raiser, and he’s been declining for years.

I’m frankly surprised you think GSW will be good in 3-5 years.

It’s literally a terrible pick it’s top-20 protected that turns into a second. It wouldn’t be that hard.

That’s why their picks in 2028/2029/2030/2031 are extremely enticing to me.

I guess that's doable. If WAS are not cowards, they will be getting at least one real first out of this. It would make sense for UTA to send them one of the MIN/CLE (protected in some way) picks to get it done. Small price to pay to open a lot of trade opportunity.

If GSW traded for Lauri they would have to wait to extend him, correct?

It seems possible that they swing for Lauri and then still lose him in free agency next year.

So we just don't trade him then.

The only reason our hand should feel forced is if he comes and says he wants to be traded before the season starts. And in that case you get a better offer than that Dubs one.

How early after we renegotiate and extend Lauri can we trade him? 6 months? or right away?

The argument isn’t that a 39 year old Steph will be incredible, the argument is that the owner has allowed them to flip the roster pretty aggressively because he’s been willing to foot the bill. I’m way more confident that Golden State would be a desirable free agent destination in five years than somewhere like Minnesota, simply due to the resources that ownership has been willing to pour into that roster over the last decade plus.

I don’t know about the idea of anyone further compensating Washington for also making their 2030 GSW pick immensely better. They should just rush to approve the trade before GSW got any smarter.

What GSW can trade if they released protections on their 2030 pick (bearing in mind Stepien):

2025 swap
2026 pick (or swap)
2027 pick (or swap)
2028 pick (or swap)
2029 swap
2031 swap

So they can trade two picks and four swaps. They also have some nice young players, but… yeah, IDK, seems pretty thin to me.

That's correct, they can only give him 5% raise which is not enough. Makes trading him a little more difficult. I'm also pretty sure that only the Jazz can R+E him. Don't think that's available for other teams with space.
