What's new

2024 NBA Free Agency Thread

It depends on what they are asking for. If both players are asking for max contracts then I understand it. Particularly with Green. I would feel more comfortable with Sengun but even then you are only going off of one season of high level production.
You got to pay someone though. It just feels like they are going to try and do what Utah did with Hayward and really penny pinch on the margins for his 2nd contract. Sounds great in theory, but the human cost is usually not worth it.

I do a little. With guys like Sengun you have to really play through them and their weaknesses may hold you back at the highest levels. I'm not a Sengun truther but there's a chance dude improves his shot and becomes something between Sabonis and Jokic and I would be focusing my rebuild on him.

All in all the Rockets are way too focused on how good they were in Mickey Mouse March... when you shouldn't believe anything. I would be in on Sengun and having Hardy take a stab at seeing what he can get out of the guy. I can see it working at an all-star level... I can also see it never quite being good enough to justify the commitment it takes to play through him and overcome his weaknesses.

With Green I wouldn't pay that guy anything close to the max. He's not a guy I'd be excited to build around at all.

Then trade him?
I'm not sure he has amazing value... so I get why they would play it out. If he's awesome then he is restricted. If he isn't I am not sure how much opportunity cost there is. I bet they could get a first for him but I'm not sure it would be an awesome first. I'd be really skeptical of the one good month or two he had.

I wonder if teams will become more stingy across the board with the new CBA stuff.
I hope so. Seems like everybody is getting maxed these days

There is a big middle ground between giving a guy a max contract and trading him. Green he has been so inconsistent at times that I want another year of data from him and if he has to hit the open market to determine his value then that is fine since he is a restricted free agent. Worst case scenario is probably that you are matching a 4yr contract with a player option after year 3. Yeah there might be a little animosity about having to hit the market but I think it is the correct move with Green.

I mean, stating that New Orleans might be interested in Walker isn't exactly mind blowing. He's a cheap center, of course he's going to be on their list.
It makes sense... that's how I know this guy is more credible than Monty.

We already have UTA, CLE, MIN 2025 picks... Ask SAS for ATL 2025 and SAS 2025 in Lauri trade... then ask NOP for LAL 2025 and NOP 2025... Own like... a quarter of all 1st round picks in one of the most stacked drafts in recent memory....
DA won’t stop until they make rules about the amount of picks one team can have. He’s a monster.
