2024 NBA Free Agency Thread

One thing that I also came to think about is that we saw that Lauri as your best player can lead you to being a .500 team. So the "once Steph gets old they are toast" argument kinda underestimates Lauri. Danny had to shoot the wheels two seasons in a row to secure a top 10 pick. So should we somehow expect that GSW with zero incentive to tank would gift us better picks?
Well Lauri could be gone in a year and Steph is old

I think this will be it for James. I bet he’s two years and out. Dat 2027 pick doe.
That sucks. That means he plays, and they are trying hard to win for him in his last season, during the season that determines where that pick lands

No… he retires the year they owe it.

Edit. I see my mistake. I missed the 24/25 season when thinking of the years he would play.

Cool cool. Good news for the pick

They will not trade "kings ransom" unless they first get assurances that Lauri would re-sign to a fair offer. And Lauri is not the type to go back on his word. Furthermore, DA cannot value the picks based on super speculative scenarios.

So anyone assessing the trade value should assume Lauri will be there long term. Reduce 5% for flight risk if you will, but not more.

We need the protections off that pick. Get them Clarkson ASAP and take back whatever garbage salary to make it happen.
DLo will get wrapped into some trade that they do... we can help smooth things by assuming some salary. I know the math and it is unlikely to fall in the 1-4 range but I'm with you. Get that pick naked.

We could facilitate somehow in a DLo/Derozan sign and trade since Bulls won't want to take back salary and Lakers need to stay under an apron or the third bib or some ****. Help them avoid the spatula of death.

Golden State is either making moves so they aren't pathetic or they are making moves so they actually have a roster with an outside **** of contending with Lauri

Can't tell
What I can't get is... if they were going to settle for being mediocre for the final years of Steph... why not give Klay what he wanted and let them retire together in a few years? This is why I actually think they are trying to build towards something better... I just don't know what it is and if it includes Lauri.

draft class of 2026 if he's a oad. he'll be a senior in HS this year.
Yeah... so that doesn't bode well for our 27 pick. This means LeBron will stay at least until the 2026-2027 season(the 27 pick). Although... at that point who knows at what level he will be... maybe he will be like a dad coaching his sons' peewee team... just in the NBA.

Because paying Klay would be a **** ton of money instead of just a lot. It'd also be hard to trade Klay if you gave him the contract he wanted.

When all of the dust settles and Utah still has a bunch of cap space, it will be interesting to see what we do with it. Danny Ainge is physically repulsed by second round picks, so he might have to leave the office for a little bit.
