For hypotheticals and for off-season debate, I have been thinking about how there seem to be so many guys that could be had for nothing these days that could make for a sneaky good and deep team if Danny wanted to go that route. I'm not even going to do numbers on any of this since thats @Elizah Huge and @Handlogten's Heros jobs here, but couldnt the following dudes be picked up for cheap to add to a mix of Lauri/maybe Walker/Maybe Sexton?

-Brandon Ingram
-Cam Johnson
-DFS
-Jarret Allen

Overall, the question is "has there been a better time to take advantage of a weird market than now?"

For the record I am 1000% pro-tank, and not the half assed kind we have done the last 2 year. Playing devils advocate here.

Personally I'm ok if we go that route. If we were I would have wanted to keep Dunn and drafted guys that weren't as big of projects, so even though it's minor I think that ship has sailed.

Westbrook-Tyus Jones-Collier
George-Kennard-Clarkson
Ingram-Cam Johnson
Lauri-Hendricks-Markieff
Kessler-Collins-Boban

Williams, Collier and Flip will get a ton of G league burn so I left them off. Get these dudes and run teams into the ground. 100% effort.

If are trying to win, I'm doing everything I can to keep Sexton and use Collins/Clarkson for salary matching.

I just threw something together quickly. Shoot me a squad, homie. I’d probably want the best possible defender at the 2 or 3.

My first point was that the time to do this was before the draft and not signing Dunn. I think I put something similar to the following together, which I thought looked like a pretty decent roster:

Carter Dunn (Before I knew Carter was going to be out 6 months)
Sexton Keyonte
Cam Johnson DFS
Lauri Hendrix
Kessler TBD

If we get wild with all the guys the op mentioned then maybe it could have been

Carter Dunn
Sexton Keyonte
Ingram Cam Johnson
Lauri Hendrix
Allen Kessler

I'm guessing there is no way that would have been possible to pull off though.

I feel as though these situations with Ingram are going to be more common. I think we are past the days of every have decent player getting a full max without question. So while we might be able to get Ingram on the cheap for now, I don’t necessarily think this will be a unique opportunity going forward.

BTW, Lauri is still a no question max for any team in the league. But there’s a non-zero chance that he will be seen as “overpaid” at some point during that deal. Knock on wood….If Lauri has any signs of slippage/further injury issue, a full 5 year max could be regrettable.

You have to maintain an extremely high standard to warrant being a vet-max player in the new CBA.

I do wonder if the Pelicans would just take Collins/Clarkson/Kessler for Ingram.

Yeah, Ingram is good, but you take out 3 rotation players for one so you increase the minutes of the rookies who are going to drive losing the most.
Right? Like 2 years ago you would have gotten laughed off the phone for this.........today? I'd do this deal instantly.

I do wonder how cheap Ingram could possibly be. How far off is a Clarkson/Collins/Kessler package?

I really must have missed a lot over this somewhat summer sabbatical to wake up and find the discussed value of Ingram has gone from a few picks to our salary-dumping scraps.
