Conspiracy Theory Corner

Tanking is effective, but it's also lame af
It’s smart but sucky. I don’t have a lot of great ways I’d try to “fix” it but it’d be nice if there was a better way to be competitive and add top tier talent.

Don’t make me bust out the old adage about the best ability

Kawhi is beyond cooked health wise.
He just played 68 games and was 2nd team all NBA. I get it's a risk, but the fact that there is risk is why it might be possible. Point blank period he can be the best player in any playoff series and that's how you win a ring, by having that guy

I just don't look forward to watching two years of trying to lose hoping we get the best player with the 17% chance then hoping that guy develops quickly to be a top 20 guy. I'll enjoy it because I'm a Jazz Sicko, but Id rather watch Kawhi Leonard if Danny thinks he can build a team with the assets with him and Lauri as the two feature guys. Because a Kawhi/Lauri team at the 3/4 is potentially elite

We are so close to getting a legit talent in the ‘25 and ‘26 draft.

Don’t throw it away by paying Ingram and being a middling team for years to come.

To add more fuel to the Ingram conspiracy… I think Windy mentioned keeping cap space open for now. I think it would like need to be an uneven salary deal to keep NO out of the tax so that would make sense we aren’t taking salary dumps right now.

I’m telling ya, if there were an Ingram trade happening…..it would look exactly as it does right now. Lauri -> GSW is more likely Ainge pretending like he has other options.

Lauri alone already takes us out of the “guaranteed top 5-6” conversation. Once we’re beyond that, we’re mainly talking small cuts at top 4 chances and I’m ok with that.

Btw, I’m not sure that Ingram alone produces more wins the the duo of Collins+Kessler over 82 games.

Been saying this for awhile. Collins was awesome in the second half of last season.
That tweet was from January and described a very small sample. Over the whole season the Jazz were the worst defense in the league by a mile with Collins at the 5.

He played 68 games and then was a complete dud for the playoffs though, as has become the norm.

Even some crazy ‘play 20 games in the regular season, whatever it takes to be healthy for the playoffs’ strategy I wouldn’t really trust because the dude is just chronically injured and will always get hurt. I think his games played hardly even matter at this point. Speaking of which, he would elevate load management to an art from the likes of which we’ve never seen before were he to come to SLC. We don’t even have the team that could make the playoffs without heavy contributions from him in the regular season. I just don’t see the match.

The only way I’d do it is if they’d take the trade you posted with no additional draft compensation. Which obviously ain’t happening. Not nearly worth the risk imo.

The guy quote tweeted himself today and reiterated his point....

The tweet doesn’t change my opinion. Collins was awesome in the second half of last season.

Idk what draft picks it would take, but it's definitely worth the risk depending on what other moves you can make. He's that good. You'd have a team of Kawhi/Lauri for 3 years which gives you a good 3 year window if you manage Kawhis health (yes, I know, risk) but he would potentially be the best player in Jazz history

That doesn't make what I said any less true.

If you closed your eyes whenever we were on defense, I guess this makes sense.
I don't really care what you think regarding Collins. That's not the point of what I'm posting. A portion of Pelicans fans and media seem to like the idea of Collins and don't view him as a negative like some Jazz fans do.

Then why respond to me? That post was replying to what Kqwin said, not you.

Seems like the 2nd half of the season was when we lost a lot of games. Something like 5-29 at one point.

Of course that doesn't mean Collins wasn't awesome statistically as an individual though. A lot contributed to all the losing, not just Collins. But Collins being top 3 in minutes per game would lead me to believe that he has to have factored in a decent amount.

Also, it's a bit dishonest to place the blame of the defense on Collins. But I get that has to be the narrative to boost Walker up as much as possible

Both sides of the court matter, and the defense in the second half of the season (when we quit) was not all on Collins. In the same way that I can say Sexton played awesome, I can say John Collins played awesome in the second half of last season. Collins had a massive improvement over the first half of the season.
