Cleaver was the most well-known American Black Nationalist and Radical in the 1960s. He was the most well-known Black Panther in the 1960s; the Party being a combination of Black Nationalism and Marxism. After fleeing the U.S. to avoid a manslaughter charge (he was with other Panthers in a shootout with Oakland California Police in 1969) he exiled himself to Algeria and later Cuba. He soon became disillusioned with Communism and Socialism when he saw that socialist countries were no "paradises of the workers" as he had been led to believe. He had a "born-again" experience in Cuba, and became a born-again Christian. He returned to the U.S. in 1975 and was given many years of probation (he was not the shooter). Being a famous figure for years, Cleaver was "wined and dined" by prominent Evangelicals and was offered multimillion dollar contracts to start his own Christian television ministry. He declined this, perferring to work (at a low salary) with young black men in a prison ministry. He concern was not becoming wealthy, but to work with young black men in prisons; to convert them to Christ as the way to free them from crime and gangs. By 1982 he had become disillusioned with the commercialism and showmanshipism of Evangelical Christianity, and he started looking into alternative religions. Also in 1982 he met Cleon Skousen, founder of the Freeman Institute (now called the National Center for Constitutional Studies). Cleaver gave talks for the Freeman Institute, and Skousen (a well-known Mormon author and former FBI agent) introduced Cleaver and his wife to the Mormon Faith. In 1984 he was baptized into the LDS Church. He remained a Member of it until his death in 1998, at age 62, of diabetes.

Taking into account that Joseph Smith made up the book of mormon and conned people to believe it as word of god, I wouldnt want anything to do with priesthood. Putting cons and racists on top of a totem pole before Christ in any context that claims to be a Christian church is completely wrong.

**** off!!! I actually have a life, and its not all spent on a forum. Leave your fantasy world once in a while and learn the truth. p.s. its not mormonism

God cursed black people and gave them black skin so that the pure white skinned people don't find them attractive. That is why they could not become priests.

To me I thank Mormonism. Why you ask?
Because the Qur'an is written so perfectly, without scientific errors, 1/5 of it is about science and all of it is 100% correct. It has no racism. It gave women inheritance rights 1200 years before the West did. It is LESS strict on how women should wear clothes then the Bible. All it says is for women to cover their privates and dress moderatly. The bible says "A women who doesn't cover her hair should shave it off." Muslim women wear Hijabb to give respect to the wives of the Prophets(all of them not just Muhammad. Also look at Mary, she also wore Hijabb). The word Hijabb is in the Qur'an a total of zero times.
Despite these facts everyone says "The Qur'an came out to Arabs, who were ahead of the world at that time. And it came out 600-700 years after the bible.That is why is it written so perfectly. treating all races and women equal and being 100% perfect with science"
When people say that I say look at the Mormon religion. It came out more then 1800 years after the Bible and is racist and has 1000's of scientific inaccuracies (like native Americans are Jews).

Thank you Mormons for increasing my faith in my religion even more then it was and proving that.

Quran 21:30 "Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?"
An illiterate man in the desert wrote that 1400 years ago amazing.

The big bang theory and ALL live is made from water (all cells are made up of 50-80% h20) also all life evolved from water.

The difference is the liberal nutjob racist churches are insignificant. I'm guessing less than 1% of the population ever heard of the Trinity United Church of Christ before Obama ran. Hell, I'm guessing still less than 1% knows that church by name (I had to look it up myself). I'm sure bilking idiots out of even an insignificant part of the population makes the Rev. Wright's of the world richer, but they're pull is meaningless. Hell, Pat Robertson doesn't have much juice anymore and he's just a different side of the same religious nutjob coin, but with a much larger following.

The LDS church has been a fairly major institution in this country for years (granted, not all across the country) and has effectively dominated one state's politics (and maybe more, I know the LDS church has a decent population in Idaho but I'm not sure how many government leaders from the church are in high positions there) since its inception. I'm not bashing the LDS church. One of my best friends in high school was a member, and he's one of the better people I know, not to mention many fine people here who I respect. But IMO the fact they denied blacks from the priesthood years after Jim Crow was abolished is a bad thing, and I think they realized their error too late, but at least they realized it.

Im not Muslim, Im Christian, but seeing how old the Qur'an is and seeing their ways in that time makes me believe even more that the book of mormon is a false prophecy.

Cursing people while telling them that their religion is wrong while professing to be of another faith is probably not the way you wanna go sharing your faith. You claim to be a Christian, yet you do not do what Jesus does. Being a Christian isn't just going to Church and reading the Bible, it's following Jesus. I'm not one to judge anybody's faith, but when you do things like this, you just seem like nothing but a hypocrite and do more harm than good.

Not this **** again. I thought your notion that that the Koran was 100% correct was already laid to rest. I guess a true believer cannot be distracted by facts. Carry on gentile.

Interesting that you need to down play another religious belief to help reaffirm your own. You might want to reevaluate you own commitment to your belief.

This is a main problem I have with peoples twisting of religion. It is meant to build people up. Help them become better. Not to be used as a weapon to drag others down. So sad to see.
 
Stuff like this bothers me. I'm a self-professed Christian. I don't believe in Mormonism, Jehovah's Witness's, Catholicism, etc etc. Those are my personal beliefs. I have no problem sharing my faith with people, in fact, I do it a lot. One of the things I've learned in doing this is that running down people's beliefs will never work, it just angers people. Just share what you believe in and respect what they believe in, it's ok to disagree with them, but at least show them some respect. Nobody but God has the right to judge others.
