Guys like him don’t grow on trees. Most scoring guards are inefficient. They don’t come more efficient than him at any other wing or guard position. He never had any mentorship in Cleveland to speak of. He has that now with Hardy. And seems like the two are tight. Hardy coaches him pretty hard and doesn’t let him get away with doing what he did in Cleveland. And the best part is Sexton is thankful for it. And he’s improving. If we were talking about JC I’d agree. I don’t think he’s all that replaceable to be honest.
Let me ask you this. Why do you think it is we arent getting calls about Sexton?

Hint:
It has to do with his next contract and those awesome stats you mentioned.

Yeah, but there is a chance 2026 might be a loaded UFA PG class, or teams with space wont need a PG.

Due to his size, he's at risk for getting severly underpaid if the market isnt favorable. We arent getting calls because he's 6'1.

We need to do everything we can to get a high pick (a top five or higher) from next year’s draft. We can’t afford to mess this up. Believing that having Sexton, Collins, and Clarkson on the roster doesn’t matter is a false hope because we know they would all help us win games. We’ve got to be smart, not wishy-washy here. Danny may not be able to trade Collins and Clarkson this offseason, but I think he could move Sexton, who isn’t a starter on a contender team but could be seen as a sixth man by many teams. We absolutely should trade Sexton if we can in my opinion, and do it now, not wait until the trade deadline. The 2025 draft looks to be real strong and will have potential future stars at the few top positions. Now is our chance to grab one of them. We need to go “Lauri and the Kids” this upcoming season.

trading Sexton is even dumber than trading Markkanen. Last year he was 100% healthy for the first time since his injury year in Cleveland. And he showed great improvement as the season went on. I think he has an even better year this year. We shouldn’t trade him for two reasons. 1, he’s not valued much around the league we couldn’t get Back what he’s worth. 2, he’s a building block like Lauri. If we aren’t trading Lauri, then why trade Sexton.
The tank though.
If losing sexton = gaining Flagg then losing sexton is good

Those soft tissue injuries can occur at any time. I bet the training staff will be on high alert to insure some of our older players don't incur these crippling injuries.

I dont even know what that means. Are you saying that other teams put our success on Lauri and failures on Collin or something?
Are you even human? I mean my god how did you interpret that so badly? I’m speechless that doesn’t happen often. I don’t know how to respond to that other than to say “may god have mercy on your soul.”

Would it be too much to ask from you to keep the discussion respectful? I merely asked you to clarify what you mean.

The way I interepreted your post is that Sexton gets discounted because of our failures as a team. Obviously we just saw the interest teams had in Lauri, which means he isnt getting discounted for the same thing.

Even if you are correct about him getting discounted, we have to let him hit FA to prove that. He is gonna be extension eligible next summer and probably expects to get something north of 160/4, which is easily justifiable by his agent considering his counting numbers and efficiency. The size argument doesnt work there, as he produces those numbers regardless of his size.

Thus the main issue around Sexton is the fact that he does the one thing well that gets you paid in this league, but isnt really good enough on the other areas to fully justify that investment under the current much more restricting CBA.

The reason why we would want to keep him around regardless is that he is a great guy to keep around. Works harder than anyone, is a fierce competitor and great locker room guy... so all and all just the type of vet you want with all the kids we have. So there are arguments why we should tolerate the risks and extra wins that may come with him.

Drafting a star level player and having him on a rookie contract would be huge for us now that we have Lauri locked in and could then use our assets to get a third star later.
