Yes. The demand would remain relatively unchanged. The term is "inelastic". Food demand is considered inelastic. Price controls serve to reduce supply, which when combined with inelastic demand results in empty store shelves. The economies with the most extreme price controls routinely fall into famine. It happened with China and the Great Leap Forward. It happened in Russia with the Holodomor. It happened recently in Venezuela with the "Maduro Diet".

Good point. We should encourage businesses to raise the price of these items super high and then there will be plenty of those items and people will still buy them cause they have to eat.

Maybe we should increase the tax on junk food and put that toward lowering the cost of staple healthier foods. It's almost criminal how these corporations sell absolute **** with no nutritional value. Would lower our healthcare costs and people would be too sexy for their shirts.

I have no idea what the pricing on our products looks like or how much or little it fluctuates.

Does your company treat you well? Give bonuses or wage increases when business is doing well. Do they have good insurance and retirement?

Just want to see if you feel like they take care of you.

Interesting. In my experience in the food industry most companies are experiencing record sales, because of increased prices, but profits are flat, because costs are at all time highs.

I don't personally see price gouging as a concern in the food industry as there is so much competition that if something is overpriced it will get corrected quickly as a competitor can come in and take sales away. Also, in general profit margins are so low in food that even when prices go up, it's not like margins get super high like I would define gouging.

Companies make what people want to buy, and those that try to sell healthier food are at a disadvantage because it won't sell as well and is generally more expensive to make.

I'm not sure what the best way to make nutritious food more advantageous to make for food Companies, but we need to do more.

The government shouldn't doing that either. So long as there isn't a monopoly, including a government monopoly, forcing prices then the market will take care of it.

Don't fall for the fake promises or blame-casting made by socialists. Their solutions NEVER work out like they promise and typically the people don't find that out until their kid is hungry and there is no food for to give them. Price controls are bad news.

Price controls is just a campaign promise that will never be fulfilled. The reality though is that the cost of food is way more important to people than illegal immigration. Kamala should point out that she wants to lower food costs while Trump wants to deport immigrants which would result in food price spikes.

Bonuses and wage increases aren't affected much by how the company is doing. The union and the company go to the bargaining table every 3-5 years to negotiate wages and benefits.

My bonus is based 100% off safety participation (reporting a certain number of near misses/safety defects and things like that) and attendance (I always get the maximum amount which is about 2,000 - 3,000 per year since I always have perfect attendance).

My answer to the question of if I feel like they take care of me well is yes. I really like my job. But I would also say that I'm by far in the minority in this feeling. Most of my co workers seem to hate their jobs and complain constantly. I'm pretty easily satisfied and easily happy glass half full optimist though in comparison to most humans.
