Re-playing the interview now on 1280 for those who missed it. I didn't hear the first 2 1/2 hours so i'm appreciative that they doing this.
He went on to say that bigmen who run the floor well are nightmares for opponent defenses, and particularly for opponent bigmen. That might be an advice for our young guys.
I'm shocked at how simple this proposition is, yet how few teams seem to get it. If you have a tall, athletic player run the floor, it's either a foul or a dunk. This is why I love it when Gordon runs the floor like he did tonight. He's 6'8 and fast breaks are inevitably defended by the other team's backcourt because they are the ones to get back first. I can't think of too many guards in the NBA who can stop a 6'8 athletic player from dunking in the open court.
That's what made Karl such an exciting player when he was in his early-to-mid-20s. A guy who was 6'9, 250 pounds and just about all muscle, running full speed at you is a terrifying sight. Hell, if we could send LeBron back in time, he couldn't stop that Karl Malone on the break.
Now, Favors is athletic, he's fairly quick, and he's an inch taller that Karl with the same weight. He needs to run like an antelope when the opportunity presents itself. Since he mostly plays with Kanter, who can secure rebounds, he shouldn't worry too much about rebounding and he ought to just run. Is Jimmer Fredette going to stand in his way on the break?
Because players who are tall are usually players who are also heavy (not fat, but they weigh a lot). It's generally not easy for them to run the floor the entire game.

When Malone talks about big men running the floor he isn't talking about them dribbling down the court. Did you ever watch the Mailman play? He would get a reboun,d pass it to Stockton, then sprint down the court for an easy layup. And the other thing is that big men usually are the worst ball handlers on the team.
Touché. Malone and Stockton have really spoiled us. They were really unique players, but as a Jazz fan, I almost take it for granted that all players are like them.
Still, I'd be intrigued to see what happens if we get Favors to run more. I know we can't get Enes to, he is too slow and heavy.
Thnx for the recap I missed this. For the record, Enes is not slow at all, if you're not comparing him to a guard. Check Draft Combine results, see his sprint, how he runs for his SIZE. He is heavy, of course, but considering his size - which you cannot teach - and weight, he is very good.
Enes, of course, is heavy but he his body fat % is just ridiculous, I do not think there's currently any NBA center who has a better ratio in that.
I was really impressed with how he reacted in PnR situations in Dallas game. He read it well and recovered pretty quickly even though he was the biggest, heaviest player on the court, and matched up against a more athletic PG/C combo in those situations. I do not understand how he can be slow for a bigman.
That comparison had nothing to do with speed. The comparison related to how Kanter runs directly to a spot (low block) and immediately establishes deep position. Corbin referenced both Malone and Alonzo Mourning in that comparison. Nothing about the way Kanter runs the floor resembles Malone's endurance and speed in filling the lane. Also those that followed the draft may remember that coach Corbin and Calipari made comparisons to Malone when saying how he runs down the court.
