Trump Dictatorship and All Things Politics

I have said it before and I will say it again. I think that we will get through the next 4 years ok. My prediction for trumps second term is something like this:

Economy: The worst is behind us. The economy is doing fine and is already on the upswing. trump is once again inheriting a good economic situation and as long as he doesn't try to do too much he wont screw it up. Presidents dont control prices or wages. Economy would have been fine with Harris as well.

Immigration: I think trump will be rather successful with slowing immigration at the border and I approve of that. This is where I actually prefer trump to Harris. I think he will be extremely unsuccessful at the whole mass deportation thing. This is a good thing imo as well. I think that was mostly all talk and its way too complicated and expensive to pull off. Have to catch the undocumented (illegal) immigrants. Then have to have facilities to detain them and hold them in. Then have to process them through the system. Then have to arrange for the former country to accept them back into. Very very very expensive, time consuming and complicated and the end result simply means too many job vacancies and a big blow to our economy. I think that about all that will get accomplished in this regard is that illegal immigrants who commit crimes while here will get deported but the ones who simply go to work and raise their families like the rest of us will be left alone. I think this is a good thing.

Wars: I think he might get a deal done between russia and ukraine to end the war. It will certainly be very favorable to russia and horrible for ukraine but ukraine may have no choice but to take the deal. (this could be a net good thing for the world even if it isn't right) I think he will do nothing helpful in the israel war and maybe make it worse.

Woke stuff: I think he will do very little in this regard. Gays will still be able to get married. Interracial marriages will still happen. Trans people will continue to exist. people will still identify as whatever. These groups will likely have more anxiety and feel less safe and suffer more abuse online and whatnot than before which sucks but nothing policy or law wise will happen in this regard.

I think the main thing that will suck is the same thing that sucked last time. He will be very embarrassing and inflammatory. He will act classless, divisive, idiotic. He will be all over every piece of media on every platform at all times. He will use horrible rhetoric very often. He will make us even more divided. Social unrest will spike. He will be very bad for the mental health of the country. He will be annoying and hyperbolic and corrupt. He will likely set the next president up poorly. He will likely weaken our alliances with our allies. He will likely use the DOJ to go after those who were critical of him.

But the country will survive and recover. Im a big time glass half full optimist in general though so take it with a grain of salt.

All of this is more than fair, and I applaud it.

One thing that I think is weird is that neither candidate made legalizing weed a major part of their campaign. https://www.pewresearch.org/politic...izing-marijuana-for-medical-recreational-use/

An overwhelming share of U.S. adults (88%) say marijuana should be legal for medical or recreational use.
Nearly six-in-ten Americans (57%) say that marijuana should be legal for medical and recreational purposes, while roughly a third (32%) say that marijuana should be legal for medical use only.

Just 11% of Americans say that the drug should not be legal at all.
About half of Americans (52%) say that legalizing the recreational use of marijuana is good for local economies; just 17% think it is bad and 29% say it has no impact.

More adults also say legalizing marijuana for recreational use makes the criminal justice system more fair (42%) than less fair (18%); 38% say it has no impact.

Majorities of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents say legalizing recreational marijuana is good for local economies (64% say this) and makes the criminal justice system fairer (58%).

Republicans are more likely than Democrats to cite downsides from legalizing recreational marijuana:

  • 42% of Republicans say it increases the use of other drugs, like heroin, fentanyl and cocaine, compared with just 17% of Democrats.
  • 48% of Republicans say it makes communities less safe, more than double the share of Democrats (21%) who say this.
I think even most people who are against it would probably admit that its less harmful to our physical and mental health than alcohol is.

One thing that I think is weird is that neither candidate made legalizing weed a major part of their campaign.
It isn't weird at all. One candidate had a brother who was an addict. The other candidate had her 2020 campaign ruined by that issue when Tulsi Gabbard pointed out the hypocrisy of jailing so many people for it while later going on a radio program to laugh about how she herself was a user. Both candidates had personal reasons for not wanting to go there.

Oh he likely has a problem with it, but he can't say what it is because it would compromise the fake persona of the "concerned yet balanced conservative and lone voice of reason" he has so carefully cultivated.
Incorrect, I don’t have a problem with it. I don’t honestly care about any of Biden’s staff. Didn’t care then, don’t care now.

I am reasonably, like you use to be. Then your ideas and opinions became so far left I can’t see the difference between you and Thriller. Fish is starting to get more and more left and I find it interesting.

Your hatred of Trump is clouding actual reason. Everything he does somehow is a move a Dictator does. Cry more that he wants loyal people to be in his Cabinet. This is normal. Biden didn’t go and nominated Republicans who were against his agenda. But, but, but…Trump. Yeah Trump is your President. He is doing what every President is doing before him. Building his Cabinet how he wants.

It’s okay that you’re are far leftist now, just own it. Again, independent here, that is excited about many things that will be happening, not sure about some things, and not happy with others.

For example, I’m so happy for the new Doge department and Trump got the 2 people to run it that are perfect. Grab Cenk and Bernie from the left and let them gut, fix and improve the operations of our Federal Government.

I’m not sure about, how the Tariff's and dropping the income tax will work exactly. Love the impact on how it will improve the economy for many people in America but how does it replace what we need to balance or improve our debt.

What I don’t like is Deporting all illegals. Even though I don’t like what happened with the Border the last 4 years, I don’t think they should deport them. Again pause immigration. Improve our infrastructure and reopen to needs based immigration.

So sit there and keep bitching about Dictatorship and be Thriller 2.0. Trolling is what you have been so vocally against in the past and now that’s all you are doing now.

This is reality…

Putting it bluntly, this is probably the best possible pick Trump could have made for this position. He wouldn't have picked Mark Cuban or Richard Branson, obviously, or someone who is an actual economist instead of someone who worked the system to get rich. But Bessent seems like he has good ideas, won't bend over for Trump, and will probably at least consider the impact his policies will have on non-billionaires and corporations.

I'm happy for you that most of the potential risks don't have a personal impact on you. That means you are most likely white and in a generally conservative environment. Consider yourself lucky. I have a daughter with a partner who both feel very direct threats from what might happen. My son is dating an awesome woman who is here on the DACA platform, but now her ability to stay here is directly being threatened even though she came here at 2 years old. Consider yourself lucky none of this means much to you personally. But we can't pretend it won't have any impact beyond the minor discomfort of a president acting the fool just because it might not affect us directly personally.

I'm a bit concerned personally about my wife - she's a permanent resident, has lived here almost her entire life, but could also be deported since she's not a citizen. If there is any hint of it, screw it, I'll move to Canadia with her. My youngest (now 29 years old) is non-binary, and they could have blowback. And I have a ton of queer friends (in every sense of the word queer). Not to mention I like having enough money to live on, enough money in the school system that I'm not surrounded by complete morons, money in the local system to care for roads and such, etc, etc.

We live in a society. We are all connected. As the Wobblies would say, an injury to one is an injury to all.

I really wish people could have experiences with others, like you have.

My wife and I both work with people who have taken advantage of DACA. Sending them back to their native countries would be devastating if not actually life threatening. One person I know of doesn’t even speak Spanish anymore. So how are they supposed to function or have a career back in Venezuela if they’ve lived here ever since they were toddlers and have obtained all of their education and certifications here?

If the ACA is repealed, sure, you might not buy insurance on the ACA market so you don’t care if it’s repealed. But are you and your family members free from pre-existing conditions? If your children want to serve missions, having them be able to “mooch” off your insurance is a godsend. If millions are thrown off the ACA exchange market, they’re not going to stop getting sick. So what do you think is going to happen to our own healthcare costs when people move from preventative medicine to reactive? And they move from insurance paid providers to emergency rooms? The ACA repeal might not affect you directly when it’s repealed. But indirectly, it most certainly will. I just hope that there’s room in the ER when you need it.

I like traveling the country and knowing that I won’t get sick with polio because of mass vaccination. I like how our food and water is regulated and is safe for the most part, to consume. Placing a bunch of kooks, cranks, and Trump loyalists in positions that can impact these aspects of life will directly and indirectly impact all of us.

If the Dept of Edu is dissolved, you’ll see funding for SPED services and enforcement of SPED services drop. Things like Pell Grants will altogether dry up. If you value an educated populace, you need a federal system that can fund and oversee things. This isn’t something 50 different states can manage. Hell, you already see the mess that Republicans have made with abortion. What will end up happening is that blue states will attempt to enforce desegregation, SPED, and grants to various edu institutions while red states won’t. Red states will funnel funds into vouchers and other schemes that will be great for a handful of (white), rich, and well connected and **** over everyone else.

If you care about stability around the world, do you really want a president who’s as emotionally unstable and intellectually incurious as Trump? Someone as hostile to NATO and western democracy as Trump? What do we think happens when he gives Ukraine away to Russia? Why wouldn’t Russia interfere more with Estonia, Belorussia, or Georgia? Why wouldn’t China invade Taiwan, knowing that Trump won’t defend them? What’s being done to counter Russian and Chinese influence in Africa? Sure their current colonialism of Africa might not mean anything to you now, but what are we going to do in the future if the world’s largest mineral producers are controlled by the world’s worst dictatorships? Think your iPhone is expensive now? Just wait.

What does it mean for society? If you have a daughter right now, how does she feel about a serial rapist stuffing his cabinet with a bunch of pedophiles, rapists, and misogynists? What’s the message being sent? What’s the message being sent to young men right now by the man with the world’s largest platform? Be racist. Be misogynist. Do whatever you want. Morality doesn’t matter. Everyone is corrupt anyway.

Trump gives his followers permission, permission to act their worst. He is a malignant influence on the world. Those who can look beyond their own noses see it. Those who can’t or those who are drawn to Trump because they see his malignant influence, well I just can’t help you.

Has the country recovered from his last presidency? I drove past this field on Timpanogues highway today that had a bunch of “Let's Go Brandon” and “I could **** a better president” and “Trump 2024” flags. I think there are a lot of broken people who have remained broken.

Hell, his AG Pam Bondi, has said in the past that she’s going to prosecute those who have investigated and prosecuted Trump. This type of rhetoric would’ve ended anyone’s chances of being AG pre 2016. Hell, even pre 2020. We’ve become a harder and meaner society with Trump. A society that accepts what was recently the most unacceptable (like electing the guy who wants to pardon the Jan 6 insurrectionists).

It’s been said often that any Trump accusation is also, if not only, a confession. We all know by now, if we’re honest, that Trump tried to prevent a peaceful transfer of power in 2020-21. Based on a reversal of the truth: Biden and the Democrats stole the election from Trump. His accusation was actually a description of what he himself attempted: stealing an election that he lost.

Is accusing the Dept. of Justice any different in kind? I The Justice Dept., and the American people who believe a president must be held to account for attempting to steal an election, are guilty of “weaponizing the Justice Department”. Yet, is it not obvious that 1) attempting to hold a president accountable is something the people should be proud of, it shows they care about our values. It is not weaponizing justice. It is seeking to hold a president to account, to demonstrate that, in our system, it’s a nation of laws, and a president is not above our laws.

And 2). Is it not also obvious that the effort to appoint Gaetz was to further weaponization of the Justice department, in the interest of Donald Trump, who told his followers that “I will be your retribution?”. Once again, as in almost every time over the past 10 years of the Trump era, Trump’s accusation is really a confession. Of what his intentions are. He will continue to weaponize Justice, in order to justify his Big Lie, in order to reinforce his fake alternative history of recent American history.

To those with clear eyes to see, and ears to hear, what I’m describing could not be any clearer, any more true. His M.O. has always been to simply “talk his reality into existence”. That was, and is, his genius. He knew human nature was always on his side. He knew Dunning-Kruger was endemic in the American population, a flaw which has been primed by conspiracism, as almost a new default thinking mode, among the American public. Rendering them easy converts. To the point a majority of Trump voters supported his concocted fake narrative.

The people spoke, they wanted Trump. That does not erase the fact that we can see things clearer if we open our eyes.

Just want to continue pointing out that "far left" in the U.S. is right of center in the rest of the western world.
That statement is very debatable if not outright dubious.

I don't think these people, myself included, are moving left, it's the goal posts that are moving right.
Based on what?

The problem with block lists and curated social media feeds is they remove context. I am not saying that is you, but I'm speaking broadly. Someone who had created a bubble isn't moving relative to the inside of his or her bubble. That isn't the same a proof they aren't moving relative to the world.

I freely admit this unmooring from context applies to people everywhere on the political spectrum, but some of the more destructive reactions have been on the left. There was a man in Minnesota who killed his family and himself to protect them from Trump.

We may not have people quite to that level here on JF, but we have two threads devoted to how Trump is a dictator. Thriller thinks Trump is going to ship billions of dollars of arms to Russia so they can finish Ukraine. More than one user has alluded to a belief that Trump was going to make being gay illegal. Because these people have constructed bubbles, those thoughts sound sane to them as everyone they can hear agrees with them.

Okay let me rephrase. Stupid *** MAGA idiots call everything that isn't what they believe "far left," "extremely liberal," "socialist," "anti-American," "Unpatriotic." It isn't true. Log is not a flaming liberal. Kamala Harris was not an extremist. That's just stupid **** that stupid people believe.

Just want to add to what I said above. When someone points out that MAGA is the overwhelmingly preferred political movement for actual out in the open racists and racist groups, MAGA bros cry that people are always calling them racist. That the reason they continue to support Trump is because someone somewhere called them a racist, so obviously they run to the same comfort blanket safe space as the actual racists do... MAGA.

You know what I'm tired of? MAGA telling me I'm not a patriotic, constitution loving, land of the free supporting American. MAGA doesn't own patriotism. You can't gate keep my love for the U.S.! And you're not going to gaslight me into believing that I don't stand for the very same ideals that this nation was founded upon.

You’re arguing with one of the biggest trolls on this board.
