Following Potential 2025 Draftees

Is he suddenly gonna start shooting better when he's 18 (in a couple of weeks) or 19?

Ridiculous. The dude can't shoot, stop with the excuses.
Another former Duke forward Paolo Banchero still doesnt shoot all that well but he is pretty good nonetheless.

As predicted, Flagg's shooting numbers are abysmal:

FG% .444
3P% .269
FT% .706

People like to wave these aside and say "he's such an impact player in other ways", but in the NBA, he won't have the ball in the first place if he can't shoot, and nobody's drafting him at #1 for his defense.

His current role at Duke won't translate to the League at all.
Like a Deni Avdija with better defense.

Here are a couple of names for a late 1st: Javan Buchanan of Boise State and Anthony Roy of Wisconsin Green Bay both 2-3s. Both guys were NAIA All Americans last year and are playing D-1 this year. Roy scored 30 on Ohio State and Buchanan had a couple of high 20s games off the bench last week. Both can shoot.

Harper and Flagg would really be elite prospects if they could shoot, but they're now in the "... Well, they'll be stars if they learn how to shoot" tier.

Flagg has top 10 player in the NBA potential if he becomes a great shooter and Harper has top 3 player in the NBA potential if he becomes a great shooter.... How good they will get at shooting is a massive question mark, however.

Tough to rank them because I think Harper has much higher upside, but Flagg is likelier to learn how to shoot.

Obviously Duke is holding these players back.

Jared McCain and Paulo Banchero are both better pros than what they showed in college. I still think Procter will be better in the NBA too, fwiw.

How Duke kept managing to recruit those 5 star prospects to their program after coach K retired is beyond me.

You have to look at FT shooting as a signal for shooting potential. Some of the attempts Flagg takes are pretty low-percentage. He's flying down the lane, shooting off balance in small shot windows, etc. Or look at how well he's shooting on spot-ups when his feet are set.

I'm hopeful Drake Powell turns into something. His physical profile is pretty ideal for a 2/3, a bit like a modern version of Michael Finley.
