2024-2025 Tank Race

So why are we playing Svi and Eubanks then? To pump their trade value as well? Their minutes could have been easily filled by Flip, Collier and Cody and it could have easily made a difference last game.

No, the real answer is that the Jazz are simply playing for the wins by using their best available players. It is obviously what Ainge and Hardy want.
You really think Ainge wants to lose ping pong balls?

The FO gives Hardy space to make decisions, especially early in the season. I'm sure there are discussions on development of the young guys, but they aren't micromanaging him yet.

Right, but every game matters in a tank race. While we're playing Sexton, Clarkson, and Collins, we could also give our young guys more minutes. Now we have games where they play very little or don’t play at all. Anyway, I hope Danny can find a trading partner or partners sooner rather than just before the deadline.
Agreed.

Are you a very recent Jazz fan? Because it's exactly what Ainge did the last two seasons: he stacked the team with good veterans and Hardy played them a lot. And the Jazz predictably lost ping pong balls and drafted at 9 and 10. The only difference this season is that the Jazz had tougher schedule in the first weeks - but now they are finally facing the teams that are truly tanking and the Jazz are getting easy wins.

Svi, Eubanks and Mills = stacking the team with good veterans? Do you really think this is the best that Ainge could do with our cap space and picks to build a competitive team?

Yeah, well, Idk. We have 55 games left, and things can easily get out of hand. I mean, if our goal is to draft a top prospect in the 2025 draft, it seems like we're not going about it as effectively as we could. Non-playoff teams know this draft class has more potential stars than usual and don’t want to miss out on this opportunity. They’ll use (and some teams are already using) various moves and strategies to maximize their lottery odds. We have a great chance to do the same, but we’re not doing it because we're not playing our young guys (Cody, Flip, Collier, Brice) enough. And, as far as I’m concerned, Sexton, Clarkson, and Collins absolutely need to be on the trade block. We’re a few years away from being a contender team. I don’t see any of them on it. And since there’s a good chance we’ll tank again next season, it makes even less sense to keep those players. Aside from maybe a couple of our current young guys, Lauri is the only player we should try to keep around because he’d be great to have when we're finally contending at some point, hopefully in 3-4 years. When it comes to tanking this season, I’d hate to see other teams outsmart us.
I'm afraid of the unending tank. Are you going to be excited to watch a 10 year tank?

Yes. There was no other reason for the Jazz to have them on the roster besides the fact that they would be better than the rookies and second-year players. And now Hardy is playing them instead of giving their minutes to Brice, Cody and Collier. Because it makes the Jazz better and brings the wins. Ainge could not use the cap space to bring the impact player because he did it before by trading for Collins - and Collins alone is probably responsible for at least two wins this season already.

Do you know what real tanking teams do? Look at the Wizards, the team that would finish with the worst record. They play their rookies and second-year players huge minutes. They play the quality vets (who they got as part of the trades as a salary dump)- Valanciunas and Brogdon - very limited minutes so that they do not get them extra wins. That is how the teams that care about the lottery balls conduct their business.

That's why you gotta tank properly.
Half assed tanks, like the last 2 years, foster the perfect environment for the unending tank.
We shouldn't do what we did the last two years. Rip the band-aid off early and often right now. More Collier, more flip, more Cody. Less Collins, less Sexton, less Lauri

Pate is a PG averaging 1.5 assists per game in the G-League while playing 20 MPG.

His numbers have gotten a lot better this year, but he's still not really close to being good yet.

Damn. That's more competition than before.

At least I personally think Philly and Detroit are nothing to worry about.
Sadly those two can simply be replaced with Charlotte and New Orleans.

We need a thread dedicated to the Wolves pick watch. That would need updates on winners / losers with similar rankings as Minny.

Spurs win - good
Lakers lose - bad
Minny loses - best
