2024-25 Trade Rumors Thread

I still maintain that my focus in trades would be to improve our picks, not add picks (though if possible, certainly add), so look at trading up from the Cavs pick by swapping the Cavs pick with another pick in 2025 along with our player assets.
John Collins and Cavs pick for Steven Adams, Jeff Green, and Suns pick.

I mentioned HOU as a John Collins destination and I think that still holds true. They could really use a backup big and Collins can play with Sengun. They probably aren't a terrible Sexton destination either with Shep disappointing. Aaron Holiday is not bad at all, but Sexton could be considered an upgrade. Backup big would be the bigger priority though.

Especially with Jabari out for 1-2 months

Something like this:

Utah out:
-Sexton
-Collins
-flex piece(s)?: Clarkson, 2025 Cavs pick

Utah in:
-two Grizzlies top-3 protected 1sts (‘26, ‘28?)
-Jaden Ivey
-Grizzlies preferred/worst matching salaries for Butler (Clarke, Konchar, Kennard?)

Grizzlies out:
-aforementioned garbage matching salaries to Jazz
-Marcus Smart
-two top-3 protected 1sts
-Jaylen Wells or GG

Grizzlies in:
-Jimmy Butler

Heat out:
-Jimmy Butler

Heat in:
-Sexton
-Collins
-Jaylen Wells or GG

Pistons out:
-Jaden Ivey

Pistons in:
-Marcus Smart

Some seconds probably change hands to even out/dial-in value for some parties.

That would be an insanely good deal for us.

It’s gonna take real value to get Sexton and Collins so I think this is appropriate. Honestly, I’m a little worried it’s not enough to the Jazz since those Grizzlies picks are probably trash. Not sure how legit Jaden Ivey is.

Heat don’t seem interested in picks (which is a little odd since they tend to knock their picks out of the park), so they get two productive 50/40/90-ish players and an already-proven rookie scale player. If there’s a way to get Clarkson somewhere, great (maybe send him to Detroit for Simone?). Maybe the ‘25 Cavs pick heads to the Heat.

Pistons get the exact replacement for Ivey that they should be desiring. Maybe they should get a 2nd from someone.

Juzang is a piece we could throw in to any of the parties that might be hold outs.

Kings making a small run to get back into the play in. Makes it less likely they are seller which should strengthen Utah's position a bit.

I think there is a three team deal out there that would send Beal to Utah, Jimmy to Phoenix, and Sexton/Collins to Miami but I'd make both Miami and Phoenix give us a first. So it'd be 2030 first from Miami and 2031 from Phoenix. You gotta sell Beal on waiving the no trade to come here which would be a tough sell. You also gotta manage that deal for 3 years and it is rough. You might be able to sell him on load managing this year while showcasing that he still is a good player with Hardy but just not playing all that much. Everyone will kinda know the deal. Then in the summer you may find something for him or he can revive his career as we make a play in push?

Like I said the Beal part is a tough sell, but its understandable why he has struggled and that group has struggled together.

I do worry that by the end of the year we’ll be looking back and saying “what was the point of having Sexton?”.

Same could be said for Collins, but he has improved significantly.
