2024-2025 Tank Race

Hardy's complete shamelessness is good for the tank, but it feels like he's signing his career death certificate by going along with this tank. Ainge is obviously going to betray him and use him as a scapegoat as soon as he gets any heat, that's just who Ainge is, lol. Hardy is going to have to find a job with a career winning percentage in the low 30s.

I don't personally think that Hardy has any short term concerns and is probably safe for a couple of years, which is eternity for an NBA coach. It is true that career winning percentage is something that is brought up for head coaches and Hardy is tanking his numbers. I'm not sure how that impacts his future choices, but I guess I could see it making an impact. Although, I think most front offices are smart and can see Hardy's impact and how good of a coach he is through the tanking lens.

It's hard because Hardy's schemes on defense are like the actual worst in the entire NBA as the entire idea is to surrender open threes.

He's probably doing this just to tank, but teams will have no idea how to evaluate him defensively as he's been so focused on making his team as bad defensively as possible.

Pretty risky career move imo.

He's been great at player development, which is the only requirement on his plate thus far. They literally only lose because they're sitting talent, and even then, barely. Ryan/Ainge I'm sure are delighted at the job he's done.

I think the question is really whether there's been any shine knocked off of Hardy. When we got him, he was widely considered amongst the top of up-and-coming coaches. How much tanking before he's sullied in the eyes of his peers?

I'm sure any other team with a bunch of young up and comers would love him- a near-championship team looking to upgrade their coach, no, probably not and he can't prove himself to those teams with this squad. But he already is the head coach of an NBA team that historically has been more than fair to their staff- all that matters is that as the composition of the team changes he continues to be up to the challenges of the day. If so, he'll be golden.

I think he proved he could coach at the start of the season after DM and Rudy were traded when he was going gang busters the first month of the season.

You got to be kidding lol

Hardy may eventually get another head coaching gig somewhere after he inevitably gets fired here (or "steps down") as a scapegoat, but this debacle is all but making sure he has to toil as an assistant again for several years to wash off the stench of losing and tanking.

Nobody, and I do mean nobody, is going to hire him fresh off a tank where he helped destroy the Utah Jazz, one of the most respected franchises of all time.

Hardy sold his soul to the devil and now he's paying in turn.

I understand. But the question here was about a "risky" career move. In my experience, if I'm talking about where someone's career is at, then I'm concerned with more than just how their present employers see and value them. I'm sure Hardy is looking forward to the end of tanking (and part of that is self-interest).

Lmao, teams love Hardy. No one puts the Jazz being bad on him outside of the trolls on here.

Nevertheless, he's a losing coach. Hasn't proven he can win in the long run (due to the tank). That matters when there's a head coaching vacancy to fill and the team is looking at various guys.

To Ainge, Hardy is probably just a sacrificial lamb. He's not supposed to be the long term HC.

This is where I really disagree. The dude will be given every opportunity to grow with the team and he's shown out fine so far. He has a great relationship with the players even during a time when it is obviously difficult to get everyone's competing agendas to collectively align. and the offense has been great relative to its component parts.

He has a couple years to get the D up to snuff and I think he will- he is a smart guy and will find the balance.
