Jazz Clippers trade

It’s reportedly the 2030 second we had a swap on already.
Okay, that’s trash. Recontextualized, we sent 2.5 NBA players (Dunn, Eubanks, Mills) to the Clippers to pay the deadest salary in the league for a 2nd round pick. Yikes.

This is another (strong) data point that this is a buyer’s market, which might be an indicator that Danny holds out on trading Sexton/Collins. He can only take so little on offers.

Also wondering why the Jazz didn’t bother to get more 2nds stuffed into bigger deals over the last two years when it seems they were being handed out like candy. I seem to recall at the deadline two years ago that Clarkson could’ve gotten like four 2nds or some ****. Honestly didn’t get why they didn’t at the time but maybe that was Ryan being a dork.

It’s still an extra second. We’d only have one in 2030 without this deal now we have two.

I would be shocked if we don't trade Collins. I feel like this trade is a set-up for a far better trade.

I don't like it. Patty as a player coach has to be worth more than a future 2nd. Ebanks has been playing really well and helping Flip and Kessler.
Pj will probably get bought out and Mo is a waste of talent.
Patty had a nice bit of time here to have an influence already, Eubanks isn't a bad player in my book, plays hard. Mo he may or might stay, could contribute to the tank command. But it's not impossible he develops some and sticks around is it?

I mean, the best thing about seconds is that you can throw them into bigger deals to get them across the finish line or send a raft of them for a solid player on an expiring contract if timed right. Having it in 2030 means we get to keep it in the bank for a trade for five years before we are forced to draft with it (basically burning it).

Let me be clear, I’m cool with this. I’m more with it than I am against it as it conveys a tradable asset to the Jazz and shows the FO is looking under every rock for value, it is just another bad sign about the market.

Interesting that they’d likely rather have Eubanks/Mills than Clarkson? Although this trade does save them some money as well so that is definitely a factor. Maybe we value Clarkson higher than that?

A second-round pick and cash for some free agents we signed isn’t bad at all.

If Tucker isn’t re-routed somewhere I’d guess he gets bought out.
Yeah, I don’t think Clarkson’s asking price is calibrated to what the Clippers can send. They have one first they are keeping powder dry on, very few seconds, and win-now players. They probably want 2-3 2nds for him (if not a fake 1st).

So, $2.7 million for one second rounder when we’ve scoffed at every opportunity to acquire seconds prior to this?

I don’t know, man. Again, I appreciate the hustle, and I think I support it since it ain’t my money, but…
