Dallas trading Luka to the Lakers for Anthony Davis! Utah involved.

This trade would sound stupid even if it was a random twitter fan spitballing stuff.

I mean "future health concerns" my ***.... Mavs were in the Finals in 2024!! Even if Luka retires by the age 30 you get a longer window with him than with AD.

Or the "oh, scary OKC is already better and Spurs and Rockets are gonna pass us and we cannot play catch up with them".. well then you go and get a haul.

Mavs FO must truely think AD gives them a better chance now.

This traded effectively ended LeBron’s career. He and Luka are a terrible fit and they lose their only defensive presence at the rim - any chance to compete is gone. They are 3.5 games out of 2nd place and had been playing their best basketball. Horrible trade for the the current Lakers.

And if Luka can’t or won’t stay in shape, it might not even be a good deal for the future of the Lakers. 270 is crazy. We’ve seen the problems Zion’s weight has caused and that dude is still an elite athlete when he’s fat.

Picks aplenty. Bunch of young players. Several win-now players if they really are so deluded as to think downgrading their best player will make them more successful than last year.
They clearly want to make another run with Kyrie and Klay. If Luka is unavailable, and that was clearly a concern for them, it’s not a downgrade.

It's not about being a downgrade for Dallas. It's all about opportunity lost. They could have had Giannis, Nokic (potentially), probably anyone other than Shai, Anthony Edwards, and Webenyama, or Tatum. Even then, I think all those teams think about Doncic.

Halliburton? Why not? Whoever.

But they did this in stealth mode with the Lakers?!?!?! Davis is a top 20 player but on a downhill curve.

This trade feels like when the Lakers got Pau Gasol for nothing from Memphis and then Jerry West (GM at Memphis) retired and moved to LA where he got a position with the Lakers.

That situation has pissed me off for years. Feels a little like insider trading.

Mind-boggling! This is quite possibly the most shocking trade in the league in the last... I don't know... 2 decades?

Our LAL pick takes a big hit here. I guess the hope is... Doncic keeps getting fatter and drops off... or gets injured... I don't think that's very likely, but...

Getting quotes on this trade would be hilarious but also inhumane to expect anyone to go through them all.

One discussion in Reddit kinda struck my eye. They are saying that this is political and personal, and targeted at Mark Cuban by the new owner obliging to Trump/Musk who Cuban has criticized in the past.

Sounds wild but I'm out of logical reasonings at this point.

Another question:
Does this actually make the Lakers contenders in any window?

Right now their team has Luka + Lebron core and their defense will be ***. They are almost dead on assets so how do thet actually retool around Luka?

I kinda get why Mavs couldnt push for much more from Pelinka but had they talked to any of the other 28 GMs they probably get double the value or more.
