Dallas trading Luka to the Lakers for Anthony Davis! Utah involved.

-Reeves/garbage salary + 2030 swap/2nd/‘27 protections removed to Utah
-Walker/Clarkson to Indiana
-Myles Turner to Lakers

I have no idea where LA is getting their big from if anywhere elsewhere at all. Their defense is about to be a disaster.
It would have to be richer than this for Utah. ‘28 swap and more seconds or no swaps/2nds at all and the ‘31 1st.

There probably just isn’t a deal there but WTF are the Lakers doing for a 5? We honestly should just not help them answer that question.

Any word on if JHS is even healthy? I liked him in the draft and he looked pretty damn good in the gleague last year before his back injury. Back injuries are a bitch though and can rob you of your athleticism real quick.

I was at a sports card show this morning and was told of the trade and even though I told a few guys I'm a Jazz fan none mentioned Utah was even a part of the trade.

How much money did we give up?

I'm fine with the trade. I'm not confident JHS is going to be solid but he looked good in the G-League and I know a few of you wanted us to draft him (and I was joyous we didn't draft him).

Dallas is so ****ing stupid - I'm amazed they traded for a guy who is almost 32 when they could have traded for a solid young player who is on the block like Fox.

One of the things so shocking about the lack of return value is that the Lakers just got Luka in a perfect situation:
-he is no longer supermax eligible (major reason Dallas didn’t want him)
-he is playing with his hero who is renowned for his dedication to conditioning and nutrition (the other major reason Dallas didn’t want him)

In other words, LA is supposed to be paying for a more-valuable version of Luka. Instead, the Mavericks sold him as a less-valuable version. It’s just so ****ing weird.

Remember when the Wemby dream was alive and the question of trading the 2023 #1 overall pick for Luka was even a debate? Then Luka against all odds drags his mediocre team to an NBA Finals? Then less than a year later Dallas basically dumps him for a 32 year old 2nd-tier player? Crazy.

According to reports, an NBA All-Star reacted to this trade by saying something along the lines of "Do you realize how much Dallas must hate Luka?"

But here on Jazzfanz, Cy saying some version of "Guis this makes sense cuz..."

LOL.

I always thought too much was made of Cy being a contrarian. But perhaps I was wrong.

Got to bring it out here and there. I've always been a bit anti-Luka, what can I say.

I think Ainge probably screwed the value of the Wolves pick a bit this year. I legit have a hard time seeing Dallas catch them now.

Actually, this might help Dallas in the immediate term. A team with Kyrie and Anthony Davis is better than a team with Kyrie and injured Luka. Of course, now Anthony Davis needs to stay healthy too.

This trade went down awful fast. I wonder how many teams would agree to mortgage their future for Luka without a physical. I can definitely see star hungry LA doing that, especially knowing worst case they could just not offer him a contract next year and back fill with free agents.

Honestly, with the assets they kept, LA didn't mortgage much of anything.

The Lakers might be arrogant enough to think they'll extend Luka simply because they're LA, even if the Lakers miss the playoffs.
