Teams weren’t waiting for this deal at all. I don’t know mechanically how this changes anything.

Might make the Mavs a buyer for Butler/LaVine which would move things.
Yeah, the timing of this deal suggests they might be looking to two-step. Still incredibly strange to me they didn’t get anything more than one 1st. No seconds, no swaps.

I kinda suspect that the Mavs pitched both 1sts knowing they’d just take one if they had to (to get the deal done quickly and quietly), and the second the Lakers said “we’d rather not do both picks outright” the Mavs just said, “fine, how about just one pick?”

Mavs also have to max out Kyrie after this year. Would be wild if Kyrie left after this season. Got to think they consulted with him before making this deal.

You'd think so, but it also seems like they really kept it under lock and key. Feels like a quite extreme gamble.

I might be mistaken but I believe we've been involved in the three most recent NBA trades:

-Jazz/Lakers/Dallas
-Jazz/Clippers
-Jazz/Phoenix

I expect we move Collins to Sacramento.

Gotta admit - Ainge is bringing us fun during a tank season and as a whole our young talent is progressing well (I hope Hendricks is doing what he can while he rehabs and we all know about Cody).
