It's not worthless at all.

Depends on how much talent they are able to add in the next two years vs how strong the West is at that time.

Losing AD is huge. They will lose Lebron. Will they get another all-star in the next 2 years? Will Dougboy Doncic stay healthy? It's still a great asset.

I suppose Luka is injured quite often may be a bust trade for them in my opinion he will never play 82 games on a season also doesn’t play defense

My biggest question is who leaves their current team to sign with the Lakers in 2026? I doubt they will sign a max guy in 2025, even if Lebron leaves, because the 2025 class is kind of bad.

Dallas is an interesting team. Irving, Thompson, and Davis. All three were number two guys on championship teams. If they do somehow end up successful together it will be a good story.

I wonder if they have any path to adding Butler…

Since Luka has been in the league he has played in over 60 games every year, except for probably this year. Over that same time period Anthony Davis has played in over 60 games only twice.

You don't trade Luka over injury concerns for Anthony Davis.
Yeah, framing it that way was weird. Just say we dont think we can win with someone as lazy as Luka on defense when the top teams have players who can expose him defensively.

I do wonder if there is something deeper/darker, like a serious drinking problem.

Based on the speed and stealth of the deal I doubt the Mavs have any assurance from AD that he actually wants to play in Dallas. He only has two more years on his deal and then a players option and had already forced his way to Los Angeles before, and isn't afraid to make public statements about his front offices.

I mean, the dude got his wish. He gets to play the 4. The Mavs are a good team. It's a big market. He gets to play with a star. Dont see any reason for him to want out.

I don't either, but if I'm trading away Luka for less than everything LA can give, I would at least want to check with him to see how he felt about it. Maybe they did, but I'm not sure based on how it went down.

I think they just see a 2-3 year window they want to try and win for. I wonder if any of this is trying to compete before Wemby/Spurs reach full power.

I was like “he on the Diddy list or something?”
