Following potential 2012 draftees

I watched some of the UConn game this evening. First, Jeremy Lamb had about three air balls off of normal touches that I saw, off by 2 feet or more. He didn't have a great game, for sure.

Drummond plays a bit sleepy sometimes, but he has spurts of quickness and explosiveness. His movement and body language isn't great--he's flat footed and shuffles around a bit. To be honest, he looks like a slightly rich man's version of Greg Monroe. More explosive to be sure, but he's not a lock to be a dominant player in the NBA despite his talent. He also shoots free throws like he learned from the Shawn Marion school of weird.

yep .. everythang

QMiller got in early foul trouble and only played 18 minutes. Played an inspired 18 minutes, though, with 9pts (3 of 3 from 3) and 11 boards. Board beasting.

I saw they played A&M, I think their tallest starter is 6'8 if I remember correctly.

Q-Mill is my #1 guy right now. Pretty excited that the Jazz might get Machado as well. Knowing how to play basketball is a very underrated ability.

Whoa, Whoa. Knowing how to play basketball is an advantage in playing basketball? I thought everyone just drafted on potetntial.

It seems most people here are obsessed with how tall someone is or how athletic they are as if it's an end-all. There's a reason Millsap is far and away the best player on the Jazz and it's not because he has a ton of either. Same with Watson.

Prospects are more rated on their physical potential than their ability to actually play basketball in general. Just break down how rare it is to just get a PG that can spread the floor, not need to hog the ball, and not make mistakes. The list is damn short.

I generally agree with your bball opinion on things so i want to know more bout Machado. i have never watched him play. what do you like in him?

Has anybody here actually seen Machado play or are we just going off of stat lines? From what I've heard he's kind of slow, but again, I've never watched him play so I'm very hesitant to say anything positive/negative about him.

Pure PG. Great court vision paired with great passing ability. Really sharp. Pressures the D but doesn't make a lot of mistakes. Plays a really active brand and thrives in transition but still can run a half-court set. Fast in the open court and has a decent first step, even though he's not crazy explosive and whether he'll be able to score inside at the next level is a significant question. I think he has enough ability to get in the lane to force defenses to react and create opportunities. Knocking on the door of breaking the all-time assist record for the NCAA. While helping his teammates score is his primary purpose, he understands that part of that is being enough of a threat to score himself. Doesn't score a lot, but when he shoots, he shoots 40/50/82 percentages.

It's important to know that I just started looking into this guy yesterday. Haven't seen any games front to back. So take all of this with a grain of salt, but if a players can't do it on paper in the NCAA, I don't see how whatever it is that they do will transfer.

Concerns are his defensive ability. Not necessarily that he doesn't put in effort, just that Iona mixes a lot of styles including zone and he just hasn't played a lot of man-to-man. From what I've seen, he's a very active defender. It's also worth noting that he plays against a very poor level of competition and he's not a real physical specimen but I think he has the requisite physical characteristics (6' 1" 180, isn't a total stiff).

To summarize, the guy knows how to play basketball. From what I've seen he just looks like he's a step ahead of everyone else on the floor. Very smart and sure of himself and in the good way. I believe stuff like that translates very well. He seems like he could be a really good backup, and possibly even starter.

I can only speak for myself, but I've just seen youtube clips. If I had to guess I would say no one's really watched him.

Austin Rivers had a nice game with 18 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds on 7-11 shooting and 4-6 from three, only 2 turnovers. Really, really, really, really want this kid.

No thanks. Total punk and awful teammate. Basketball-wise, he's a poor man's O.J. Mayo. To me, I think the only position we should draft this year in the first round is a point guard. The problem is that the PG crop is pretty weak at the moment. So if that means trading down to a point where we can snag someone KOC and his staff thinks 'has a chance', I'd prefer that.

I like Texas' Myck Kabongo and UDubb's Tony Wroten the best out of any PG in the college game. At this point it's too hard to say where they're projected to go or if they'll even go pro...

Admittedly, I'm a bit of a homer, but I would love to see where you have read that he's a punk and an awful teammate? He's a very intense player that wants to do nothing more than win games. He did have some maturing to do, and he had to realize that he couldn't get away with the high school stuff that he pulled, but he's a good player and IMO a good teammate. He's also the only Duke player averaging over 30 mpg. You think he would be playing that much for Coach K if he had an attitude problem? Like him or not, Coach K doesn't take that from anybody.

Probably from his HS rep? I'd take Rivers, he seems pretty good to me. I don't think people who want to be awful teammates go to DUke.

Meh....his HS rep was way overrated. People got on him for being cocky, taking a lot of shots and having a nickname like "Sub Zero" or something like that. People just want to take Duke players ala JJ Redick. Harrison Barnes made his own nickname "Black Falcon" and gets praised for it. I don't get it.
