Following Potential 2025 Draftees

Im fully out on Fears as any kind of draft target. Even if the worst case scenario happens and the Jazz are drafting 8.
He's mostly struggled in SEC play, but so have most of the young guards in the SEC. It's a really tough league for guards.

I never got too high on Fears, so he hasn't dropped that far for me. I wouldn't take him for the Jazz, but I think he could still be a good player in the league.

Yeah, to be clear, I'm not out on him as a player, I just dont view him as a piece to add on the Jazz. At 8 there will be players who are the same tier but better fits.

Jace just got serious air on a huge block. His defense has been solid, but that block came out of nowhere.

He's definitely more of an off ball guard, but he's showing today that he can still be efficient with more minutes.

Traore just had 16/6 on a perfect 7/7 from the field.

I wish I could watch the games. From the box score it always feels like rec league game management where everyone gets to play and gets about equal minutes.

I hadn't seen this one yet. Fears has some nice moves here.

The standard for lead guards these days is just so high. I think Fears most likely ends up as a backup in the mold of a Nick Smith or Tre Mann. He's good and does a number of things well. I'm just not sure he does these things well enough to be a high-level lead guard. He's athletic, but not that athletic. He can shoot, but he's not a high-level shooter. He can beat guys and break the paint, but he can't do it quickly or consistently.

Should be a top-7 or 8 rotational player though.

Wolf joins CMB and Queen as the trio of skilled big guys that I have no idea how they translate to the NBA.

I think Wolf is fine if he can buckle down and tighten his defense. I want to believe in CMB, but the shooting touch just seems a bit lacking. Queen, I'm not sure what to do with.

Fears is a full year younger than a lot of the freshman in this class. His production has definitely fallen off, but to begin the year his production was as good as any. I don’t think he’s really a threat to be in top 6 anymore…but given his youth/production he’s got to be in that group of guys after 6 where it could be anyone.

It's a bit ironic that our two best young players where both drafted in the 20's and we traded away 3 picks that will likely be in the 20's for a chance at a top 10 pick, and our two top 10 picks are arguably our worse young players.
It’s an interesting observation. What I would counter with is that - at this stage - we will not be rostering 3+ rookies per year, having now done that in consecutive years. And, even if the Jazz are better at drafting later than earlier, it doesn’t change the value question which still matters if the Jazz put their earlier picks on the market.

Yeah, Im not doubting the move. It's smart, it's just funny how it works out sometimes.
