That was another frustrating performance from Lauri at the end of the game. He entered at 7 minutes left in the forth and stayed on the court all game (And yeas, I understand that it was the end of the back-to-back and he was tired but so was everyone else on the Jazz and on the Clippers). The Clippers went small and Lauri and Flip had an obvious size advantage. In 7 minutes remaining in the 4th Lauri went 2-3 for 4 points and in 5 minutes in OT 1-4 for 2 points. No rebounds, no assists, no steals, 3-7 for 6 points in 12 minutes.
He was the only max player on the floor, had a distinct height and strength advantage, and he produced ... like a regular solid starter. This was one of his best game endings. Meanwhile the leaders on the Clips, Powell and Harden, simply took over the game and carried their team to the victory.
I want our max player to be like them but I don't see it.

He's never been great on ball player and probably never will. What he was for last two seasons was absolutely the best or top three off ball players in the league. If he just shoots like he used to do, in a contender, he can rack up his all star averages again. And when the Jazz get their number one, they can't be on his skin this much. Now on the wage... Well the market value was there, and they couldn't had him very much cheaper. The contract was made so his final season is much cheaper (only 22% off the cap vs. this 30%. If he's still a Jazz man at that point, it means Jazz are a playoff team ,have found their no1, and Lauri's wage will be about just what it should be for elite 3rd option/good 2nd option.

That can`t be right. If the salary cap grows with 10% every year remaining of Lauri`s deal and his numbers at Hoopshype are correct, he is at 30% this year and next, 27,1% in 2026-27, 26,6% in 2027-28 and 26% in 2028-29.
Not like we have anywhere to spend it, considering the deals expiring next year. Kessler re-upping will be decent sized, and maybe Key if he learns to be more efficient.

It was great. He showed he could shoot while committing tanking type plays. I enjoyed it
His threes looked nice. Not much arc but those that went in all swished. He also got away with a push-off when he nailed a shot near the free throw line; I was so stoked the refs let that one go. It was also nice to see Kyle shine.
No, it was legitimately him hitting a different gear he usually doesn't

A shout out to Potter it was his second game of the day and still grabbed 9 boards.
Really good point. We sometimes make excuses for guys playing back to back games, but Potter was playing 2 games in the same day.

I agree, but I wasn`t arguing that. I was arguing the dude/dudette who said that his salary would fall to 22% of the salary cap.
I know, I know. But at the end of this game he played against the field of midgets and was routinely guarded by 6'3"Dunn, 6"5" Bogdanovic and 6'5" Harden. Lauri should destroy such match ups by overpowering them on the drives to the basket (he did it once and I was like "oh, yeah!" - and then nothing) or by shooting over them. Instead I had all these flashbacks of Gobert being guarded by a much smaller player. Or just go inside and grab all these rebounds since you have like 4-5 inches advantage over everyone not named Ben Simmons . Drive inside and dish out if you are afraid of finishing over much shorter players! Instead he was pretty much floating on the perimeter waiting for the open shots or open lanes to the basket, like in his old Chicago days.
Again, he had a nice game, but the scene was set up perfectly for his domination and he passed out on this opportunity. We had a different player in Lauri for, like, 4 months two seasons ago: he got the max based on that performance and since then played like a high-level role player.

Why are Lauri Markkanen’s numbers down? The Utah Jazz star says it’s all about the future.
Lauri Markkanen's stats are down this season, but he says — and his coach agrees — that there's a good reason for that.

Adam Silver isn't monitoring this forum, you don't have to do that.
Since Silver is not monitoring it, I would like to share here a curious statistic: this year the Jazz played other tanking teams (plus a terribly injured at the time Orlando) 7 times: Lauri missed 5 of those games.
