This is what creating “the enemy within” can do in a society. The Big Lie. The enemy within. Not like such a playbook was unheard of in history. Those who embrace it as justified should be ashamed of themselves, for the wholesale abandonment of truth and Justice it represents, but most likely, as history shows, that shame will have to wait for history to assign. So many Americans sleepwalking through their own time, all too human, insistent on learning the hard way.

Ukraine's parliament has passed a resolution affirming the legitimacy of Volodymyr Zelenskyy as president and confirming that elections are not possible until after the war ends.

The parliament noted on Tuesday that Zelenskyy was elected in legitimate elections and his mandate is not in doubt. It also said that no elections can be held until the lifting of martial law after the coming of a "just and lasting peace."

Zelenskyy was elected in a landslide in 2019, but his term expired last May. Ukraine is under martial law which under its constitution forbids the holding of elections.

Most Ukrainians, including major opposition parties, agree that holding credible elections now amidst the war is not possible because millions are abroad as refugees, hundreds of thousands are fighting.

Consumer confidence plummeted in February, indicating worry about the direction of the U.S. economy under President Donald Trump.

A gauge of consumer confidence registered its largest monthly drop since August 2021, the nonpartisan Conference Board said on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the share of consumers who expect a recession within the next year surged to a nine-month high, the data showed. A growing portion of consumers believe the job market will worsen, the stock market will fall and interest rates will rise, the report added.

Earlier this month, Trump announced 25% tariffs on goods from Mexico and Canada as well as 10% tariffs on products from China.

Trump paused the tariffs on Mexico and Canada for one month after striking a deal with each of the two countries on drug trafficking and border security. On Monday, Trump said he plans to go forward with the tariffs when that pause lifts next week.

Seven of every 10 American adults believe tariffs will raise prices, an Ipsos survey found last week.

"Consumers who fear the impact of higher tariffs, spending cuts, and deportations are getting worried and are likely to be more cautious," Bill Adams, chief economist at Comerica Bank in Dallas, told ABC News.

I'm sure if you asked, the parliament of Russia would also affirm the legitimacy of Putin's rule in Russia. That doesn't mean either Putin or Zelensky aren't dictators. I have no problem admitting Zelensky is the legitimate ruler of Ukraine. Now, can you admit Zelensky is a liar who figuratively stabbed us in the back for clout? Eff that guy. I'm not saying Putin isn't worse, because he is, but it is a mistake to think of Zelensky as some sort of hero or friend to the United States.

Twenty-one civil service employees have resigned from Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, saying they're refusing to use their technical expertise to “dismantle critical public services.”

Earlier this month, about 40 staffers in the office were laid off. The firings dealt a devastating blow to the government’s ability to administer and safeguard its own technological footprint, they wrote.

“These highly skilled civil servants were working to modernize Social Security, veterans’ services, tax filing, health care, disaster relief, student aid, and other critical services,” the resignation letter states. “Their removal endangers millions of Americans who rely on these services every day. The sudden loss of their technology expertise makes critical systems and American’s data less safe.”

Those who remained, about 65 staffers, were integrated into DOGE’s government-slashing effort. About a third of them quit Tuesday.

“We will not use our skills as technologists to compromise core government systems, jeopardize Americans’ sensitive data, or dismantle critical public services,” they wrote. “We will not lend our expertise to carry out or legitimize DOGE’s actions.”

The slash-and-burn effort Musk is leading diverges from what was initially outlined by Trump during the 2024 presidential campaign. DOGE, a nod to Musk’s favorite cryptocurrency meme coin, was initially presented as a blue-ribbon commission that would exist outside government.

After the election, however, Musk hinted there was more to come, posting to his social media site, X, “Threat to democracy? Nope, threat to BUREAUCRACY!!!” He has leaned aggressively into the role since.

Last week he stood on stage at the Conservative Political Action Conference gathering outside Washington, where he boasted of his exploits and hoisted a blinged-out, Chinese-made chainsawabove his head that was gifted by Argentinian President Javier Milei.

“This is the chainsaw for bureaucracy,” Musk bellowed from the stage.

It is not as simple as you think. Even if Zelensky lifted the decreed martial law, which he has said he won't do at the end of the war but only after "prolonged peace", only Zelensky's party is able to run for office because Zelensky banned opposing political parties in Ukraine. Zelensky also put strict state controls on all Ukraine media so that only messages Zelensky approves are allowed.

Zelensky is a dictator. You may be cheering for this dictator to beat that dictator because that dictator is more evil, but don't fool yourself. This isn't all that different from the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980's where the US was supporting good dictator Saddam Hussein versus the bad dictator Khomeini after the Iranians held a bunch of Americans hostage. Khomeini was worse, but that doesn't mean Saddam was good or that Saddam was our friend, and definitely didn't mean Saddam Hussein wasn't a dictator.

You dont know what's has been going in Russia and it's neighbors..Russia has already earlier taken basically control of Belarus having there authoritarian Putin's puppet Lukashenko leading them. Putin has been trying to do same **** on several of former Soviet nations with varying success. When Russia took the initiative to attack Ukraine, any parties with ties to Russia were banned and knowing what Putin and Russia has been doing for decades, it's nothing less than right call.

You have such a shallow understanding of the situation with Russia and it's neighbors.

I'm a Finnish person with almost a thousand miles of border with Russia so I'm very much updated how you need to deal with Russia or any threats it poses to it's neighbors. You can't be softie

That is fine and all, but nothing you said has anything to do with Zelensky being a dictator, which he clearly is. Maybe Zelensky has to be a dictator due to Russia being so bad, but he's still a dictator and a fake friend who just publicly stabbed us for clout.
