2024-2025 Tank Race

Anyone know what's going on with Steph Castle? 12 total minutes (none in 3rd quarter), 4 points, 3 TO, 4 fouls. Spurs fans scandalized that they're not prioritizing his development.

He’s just not very good (now) and they just acquired a star player who demands minutes.

Still doesn’t explain our reluctance to do it though.

Why is Lauri still playing every other game for example?
As others have already said, we do it more than pretty much every other team.
We have rested so many of our good players so many times this season.

Some players 25 years and older on "tanking" teams with more minutes than Lauri:

Jordan Poole
Corey Kispert
(not quite) Miles Bridges -- injuries have killed Hornets
CJ McCollum
Jerami Grant
Anfernee Simons
Jakob Poetl
Kelly Oubre
Gershcon Yabusele
Chris Paul
Harrison Barnes
nobody else on Jazz age 25 and older
So? It’s not only about age.

We’re going up against the historically bad NO.

Yet we’re still seeing Lauri and Collins every other game.

There’s no need for it when we need to give the likes of Cody some burn.

I specifically remembered the Warriors sitting Curry for the rest of the 2012 season due to “injury” in order to out tank us to grab our pick that netted them Harrison Barnes. (via the coin toss that we lose)

They gave rookie Klay Thompson as much court time as possible down the stretch that year.

That’s the kind of commitment you need to get the best odds in this.

Been there, done that ...

Warriors finished that season 5-21. Last year we finished the season 5-26. They got Harrison Barnes at #7. We got Cody Williams.

Tell me what the stakes are this year, other than just the very imprecise "best odds".

That was 2012. Fact is that the jazz are tanking harder than every other team in the league if sitting dudes is your criteria

There wasn’t a Cooper Flag, Dylan Harper, Ace Bailey, etc, last year though.

This year the stake is much higher imo.

We could do more is my point.
No one has though.
Every team in history that ever tanked could have done more.
The jazz are doing the most.

But I'm done with this stupid discussion

In history?

I’ve just told you how the Warriors sat Curry for the rest of the 2012 season to give the rookie Klay playing time - in order to keep the Barnes pick.

We can easily do the same in sitting Lauri and Collins down the stretch.
