Warrior watch 2012

As a new fan, could someone explain to me exactly how this deal works and at what point the Warriors 1st rounder becomes that of the Jazz?

Thanks :)

Top 7 protected for 2012 and 2013. Top 6 protected in 2014. If we don't qualify for it in 2014 then we get the Warriors' 2nd rounder in 2014 and 2016.

Warriors need to start winning a few games soon. Some lesser teams are starting to move ahead a bit (GS currently is tied for the 6th-worst record).Three winnable games coming up: a home and away set with Sacramento and against the Jazz.

1/3 of the way through the NBA season. Is it time to merge this thread with the other and sticky in the Jazz section? Or too soon?

Jerry West readily admits that he hasn't had a major impact on the Warriors in his role as executive board member, but that might be about to change.

"The Logo," a 14-time All-Star as a player and twice the league's Executive of the Year as a general manager, has acted merely as a remote adviser for the Warriors thus far. He says that he'll be a regular in the Bay Area after this weekend's Northern Trust Open charity golf tournament in Southern California, and that the Warriors might be closer to becoming a playoff team than their 9-14 record indicates.

"I'm going to be up here a lot more. I think something can be done here, and it's kind of fun for me," said West, who watches every game on a 60-inch TV from his Bel Air home and talks regularly with general manager Larry Riley, assistant GM Bob Myers and co-owner Joe Lacob. "It's a challenge, but it can happen in a year's time if we can get lucky with a few things."

West doesn't foresee a lot of trades at this season's deadline, thinking most teams will be trying to dump high-salaried players. His focus will be planning for the first full offseason of working with Mark Jackson's coaching staff and the newly structured basketball operations team to identify the franchise's next steps.

In West's opinion, the Warriors need to find a way to keep their lottery pick - top-seven protected this season - because he sees eight difference-making prospects among the draft crop. He also thinks there are plenty of good, young centers in the upcoming free-agent class who could fill the Warriors' most glaring weakness.

Hey, if I were West I'd say the same thing. Hard to rebuild without a lottery pick. Fortunately, the worst five records seem all but assured (although we're sure trying to help NO move up): Golden State is not going to finish lower than Charlotte, Washington and New Orleans. New Jersey and Detroit are still within range, but both teams are pretty bad. All five teams mentioned are playing below .300, so I doubt any will win as many games as GS. So that leaves just 2 teams that must finish lower than the Warriors. Toronto is almost a lock, so it's really a race for 7th between GS, Sacramento and Cleveland right now. The only worry is that GS has played home-heavy schedule to date. They could lose a lot of games over the next few weeks.

Well the Jazz look like they will get two lottery icks more and more. If that is the case hopefully they will turn into positions/players the jazz need. Right now we have the 11th and 13th picks

Edit: Just ran the ESPN Lotto Macine and got Jeremy lamb at 11 and Tony Wrotten Jr. at 14. SG and PG
