Utah Jazz fined 100,000 for violating league participation policy

One interesting part of this is that Lauri has been out with injury for all of these games. I'm not sure if there has ever been a fine for sitting a player on the injury report. The league is basically saying that they don't believe our injury report which could get in to some subjective territory.
No, he wasn't. There was a game or two where Markkanen was marked out with the lower back. All the rest were "injury management", which means a player isn't actually injured, but being "managed". Which might be reasonable on let's say back-to-backs for someone just returning from a muscle injury. Lauri's injury meanwhile was in October and there hasn't been anything manage since early November.

FWIW, I posted a tweet from Andy Larsen that answered my own question.

I have mused that Lauri might be a little injured. the way he is banging in the post trying to be a primary scorer lately when playing, if he doesn't have the trunk muscles to handle that it might cause some back spasms that would kind of linger (remember AK's back?) and the jazz might be having him do back strengthening exercises in the hopes that when it finally gets to 'play for real' time he might have the core strenght to handle it. will it work? not sure. will the nba be ok with this? obviously not.

I guarantee this is not just about Lauri. We've been blatantly sitting our best players regularly and the league doesn't like how hard we are tanking.

If we were actually remotely trying to win, I don't know what our record would be, but it would be substantially better.

None of this has happened. Not Markkanen "banging in the post", not lingering back spasms, not any exercises.

Markkanen has been completely healthy since November.

Since Lauri is down with the tank he should go up for a dunk or rebound or something and then fall to the ground holding his ankle and head to the locker room. Then the jazz say he sprained an ankle and will be out for 4-6 weeks lol.

How about being absolutely stupidly wrong and combative while doing it?
I don't think this proves anything tbh.

I think Lauri has a bad lower back and they are being extra very careful with it. But I'm sure he could have played by the definitions of the rule. I was never saying it was an awful back issue, but from the way he has played this year I fully buy it's an actual issue

lol this is excellent. It just shows that we're appropriately pushing the boundaries of what is able to be done to maximise the benefit of the whole exercise I say well done to Jazz management.

And given all the bias towards arsehole franchises like the Lakers i say this to the NBA
Bruh I don't want you to get suspended.
You should probably delete. Even though I found it hilarious.

From last night:

Also, all the talk over many years (decades) about tanking and cracking down on it is probably a lot like when they cracked down on CBA circumvention with… Minnesota and Joe Smith. Or when they cracked down on flopping by fining… Reggie Evans. This would be a prime time for the league to send a message and crack down on tanking… when it’s us who has the best odds.

I bat a thousand.

Also signifies that the league will not allow us to grab the #1. Imagine the outcry of a team winning the lottery “who were fined for tanking!”
