Following Potential 2025 Draftees

I’ve been one to stress that we need to be focused on BPA rather a certain type of player or position, and I’m not one of those guys who is obsessed with “winning culture”….but I think the Jazz are kind pushing the limits with our current team and staff. Our young players don’t play defense, our vets don’t play defense, it’s debatable how much our coach cares about defense. At someone point we have to go out of our way to address this problem. I don’t think the draft is often the place to address a specific need, but if we add another zero defense/all offense type of player the elephant in the room may become too much to ignore.

Jazz are also about the worst playmaking team in the league, which is a major reason they lead the league in turnovers. The fact that they let Svi, Juzang and Brice just freelance with the ball is laughable.

Jazz will certainly take BPA with their own pick, but I'd expect them to take someone who is defensive-minded, a ball mover, or both with the Twolves pick.

Eh...idk about that. High turnovers is not necessarily a reflection of a lack of playmaking. I think this is one of those things where we are just bad. How we play when we're losing on purpose isn't really how I would define our team. It's not nearly as significant as the total lack of defense which has been there for the last three years. We at least have theoretical playmakers, we only really have one guy who is a defensive players. I believe Hardy could flip the switch and we improve instantly on offense, not the case on defense.

I’m warming up to Derik Queen but I also still don’t see it. He has to shoot the 3 better or defend better. You kinda have to do at least one of those things to even be a rotation player on a decent team.

I think CMB is just a much better bet. Hard for me to believe can survive defensively for a 5, and if you're going to bet on his skill development to be special at the 4 I'd rather do that with CMB who could be a great defender at the 4. Heck....I'd rather have CMB play 5 defensively than Queen for sure.

If the Jazz dont get the #1 pick, would you be happier if Flagg stayed or skipped the draft?

I still doubt he does it, but he's given more hints at staying.

stay in the draft. it will give the jazz more options wherever they end up picking in that top 5. and i don't trust the jazz to tank correctly another season in order to take advantage of him making next year's top of the draft stronger. if i could trust them to commit fully to the tank, i'd rather he stay in school.

I'd be more happy he stayed if that was the case. Having a 52 shot at Flagg/AJ/Booze/Peterson is not a bad deal in 2026 to add with whoever we did end up with.

Sorry I meant stay as in stay in college.

If we don't get Cooper I think it could be pretty easy to tank if we move Collins/Sexton.

those are big ifs with this team. it's always easy to tank - you just have to commit to it. the jazz have done well this year after screwing it up the previous two - hence, i've lost trust in their ability and willingness to do it.

I'm seeing that Fland is expected to be back for the tournament. Great news.

I'm not expecting much after being out for so long, but it's good to know he's healthy.

agreed that in terms of his being an nba prospect, we shouldn't expect much especially offensively, but in terms of your bracket, he should help arkansas with his defense and just added depth in that back court.

Boogie Fland shoots 37% at the rim. As far as small guards go, Tahaad Petifford is just straight up better IMO.

You're not drafting a small guard like Petiford or Fland for their rim finishing. I dont think either are first round picks, but I'd take Fland because I believe in his shot and PG ability more.

You rarely do draft a player for their weakness, but it's still important to know just how weak that weakness is. Being so horrible at the rim isn't just an indication of going to the rim, it's also an indicator of athleticism in general. l also wouldn't take either in the first round, but Pettiford looks like a much better athlete and is also the more prolific 3 point shooter.

Small sample and he has a nice floater, so it's not really a concern for me.

Just watch the guy play. He's an NBA level skilled player.

may need to add Richie Saunders to upperclassmen to watch. he's old af (just turned 22), but he's a defense and intangibles guy who also happens to be putting up 18 ppg on 56% FGs and 46% 3pt (on 6 attempts per game) in big12 play.
His actual age is on RealGM now and he did not just turn 22. He's been 23 since September 19th.
