Like if Cody doesn't come in 20lbs heavier then I don't know if he has the work ethic or genetics to get where he wants to be. I am not saying all muscle. I am saying 20 lbs.

I do think there are some serious red flags for draft evaluators to look past with Cody... like how is he the same weight as Trae Young at the combine? Like his bones hollow? Its a pretty bad miss and if they really would have had him as high as they say they did... doesn't give me a ton of excitement about their evaluations. If that was sales talk then whatevs.

If he wasn't so crucial to the tank I'd say you shut him down now and get him in the weight room like 15+hours a week and eating like 10,000 calories. I don't want them to have the weight crutch for like 4 years before they call it a failure.

If he becomes something it will truly be a 1 of 1 instance at this point. Dante wasn't a ton better but he was better. I can't do another Exum 6 year experiment. Give it 15 months and bounce if he hasn't improved substantially.

Before the season I had expected some Exum comparisons because I understood he was far away. I couldn’t have imagined it would be this ugly. The difference with Exum is that you could at least tell he was a physical specimen. There weren’t many 6’6 PG’s with his speed and you could at least imagine a world where he’d be a good player if he could develop some skill/experience to match his physical tools.

Cody is just complete absent of any promise right now. Both his game and his physical tools look awful. He has long arms, and that shows up sometimes, but he looks slow as hell and not explosive. On top of that, he has incredibly low motor and this has been the book on him since HS. He’s a do nothing player.

I’ve been ranting about this for awhile, but I think his frailness was a distraction. We know that it is reasonable for a young guy to add on weight. But there are two major problems here with Cody. 1) He is frail to an extent we haven’t seen before. He is 15 lbs away from being 15 lbs away and that’s being generous. The guys who are 15-20+ lbs heavier than him are the guys who need to gain weight. Exum weighed about 20 lbs heavier than him. So while we can confidently say he will gain weight, the extent to which he does is more than anyone we’ve seen. 2) His game outside his weight also sucks. His frailness is the most obvious concern, but even if he was built like Adonis right now he’d probably suck. His shooting sucks, his ball handling is awful, his athleticism is poor, and again…extremely low motor.

I think we brushed aside concerns because his main one will realistically get better, but for Cody better still sucks….and if he does get there with the weight you still probably have a crappy player. It’s not a situation where he will combine great physical gifts with skill if he improves one or the other. Reality is that both sides of that equation are awful.

And just from a FO perspective, I think taking a chance on the unknown with Exum is more justifiable than missing on a well known player like Cody. Obviously the draft is a crap shoot to begin with, but add this pick to the list of things that do not inspire confidence from the FO.

His ceiling is a 3&D player and the sooner we all reset our hopes/expectations to that reality, the less painful everyone’s lives will be.

Cody’s off-season plan needs to be eating steak and PEDs like a ************, strength training, lateral speed/defensive footwork training, and developing his shooting like crazy. The rest is noise. If he can guard and shoot, he can maybe spend any attention on the rest of his game eventually but until he can do anything on an NBA floor, he will just be a stone cold bust with no path.

I don't think you're necessarily wrong...but the uneasy part is that he's a 3&D prospect in that way that every random wing is. He's an awful shooter right now, and while anyone can improve their shooting, there's not really a reason to believe he will be good versus anyone else. He shoots a terrible percentage at low volume, he has a slow release, he has awful misses, he isn't a good FT shooter, and he doesn't have a history of shooting it well. Defensively, it's kind of a mixed bag. He is often praised for his on ball defense which I would agree is decent, but that's really the only aspect of defense he's good at. On paper he is still very awful as a total defender and it's likely because he does nothing else besides occasionally play well on the ball. He has no motor at all which is a massive concern for me. I think I believe in his defense more than his shot, but there simply aren't many good defenders with an extremely low motor.

Anyways, I guess the point I'm making here is that he's not a great shooting prospect and not a great defensive prospect either. I would describe him as a bad shooting prospect and just a mediocre defensive prospect. I think Taylor Hendricks was on his way to establishing himself as an NBA player, but he still needed a lot of work to get there from his rookie season. He is FAR ahead of Cody as both a shooter and defender. I was not a big TH guy, but he is what a good 3&D prospect looks like. So while 3&D is the easiest path for someone like Cody to stick around in the league, it shows that he has a mountain to climb to get on a reasonable level. He's better than Hendricks at other things, but like you said, it's just noise. He's likely too far away to do anything besides being a player with a small role, but he's also kind of a ****** 3&D prospect at the same time.

Even though he is skinny to an unprecedented level, I think I'm more worried about his basketball skills.

Cade has been great and definitely leveled up, but I'm very impressed by DET's defense this season. I really thought Duren and Stewart were both kinda trash defenders, but they have gotten so much better. Ausar is also just as good as Amen but doesn't have the press. Those two are the two best athletes in the league. Absolute aliens.

Boy did the sixers hit on the draft this year. McCain probably would have been the ROY and Justin Edwards is working his way to the all rookie team. Then you got Bona who has looked great any time he gets minutes. From a win standpoint this year was a disaster but damn the future is looking bright for them with this infusion of rookies as well as Grimes. Watch them snag a top 3 pick as well.

lol speaking of which Bulls - Lakers a wild last 10 seconds a 9-2 capped by a Giddey half court buzzer beater to win ......
No way. That's insane.
I checked the score a while ago and figured it was over. Lakers were cruising to an easy victory

Bulls hit a 3, stole the inbound, hit a 3 to go up by 1. Reaves makes a layup with 2-3 seconds left and then Giddey hits a shot from beyond half court all net. Man there's nothing like seeing the Lakers have a game snatched from them

so Josh Giddey has bumped his 3 point % from 32-33 to 38 % this season. Given his other attributes that is a real player.

Yeah Bulls keeping Giddey at all cost. He's earned that contract

Gonna be interesting to see what his contract looks like. He knocked back an extension before the season (I cant remember the numbers) to bet on himself, looks like that's going to pay off big time.

The Bulls figured out that their tank was hopeless (not enough playoff teams in the east) and then Giddey started balling out. Crazy on all fronts.
