The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

I think Ja will be traded before his contract ends, but I also do not want to be the team that trades for Ja.

It’s not 1:1, but I think MEM is going to be making their Don/Rudy decision soon. Don’t think they’ll bottom out like we did.

Then it's basically a repeat of the Fox/Mike Brown situation. A team trying so desperately to keep their star player happy only to have him traded a few days later. ****. It's basically another Sloan/Dwill isn't it?

Deni has been crazy good. DIdnt really expect him to reach this level of play. He's got another 3 years on an incredible contract.

Kind of an interesting question as to whether he was worth it for the Blazers since he has made it impossible for them to truly tank.

Which is why The Wheel should exist. Teams should not have to question if adding talent is a good or bad long-term strategy. In a just world cream rises to the top through smart transactions, trades, and signings and draft picks are evenly distributed.
Don't think any team will be mad about having Deni on their team. The guy can shoot, pass and defend which basically makes him a fit to any system on any team. I didn't throw out the Flagg comparison out of nowhere. Deni gives Portland a solid foundation to build on, especially having him locked on a super affordable deal through 2028. Now they are only one good draft away from getting out of rebuild and ready to compete.

And they will likely never get another shot at top tier talent...

Just need to get lucky. At the moment they still have 20% chance at a top 4 pick just by lottery odds alone. Not to mention the chance of finding a gem even in late lottery. This year's draft is like a complete crapshoot outside of top 2.

I read about the Grizzlies Jenkins gate from forums and fans, and it seems some say that Jenkins was regularly suggested plays in games by the assistant Iisalo (and being ignored), and players were many times taking his side which caused tension. So it might be that Iisalo just in under one season became players favorite, and the GM, feeling pressure from the ownership to succeed, pulled the plug and did what might make the players more happier and maybe it'll lead to improved results.
Some of the talking heads say that when Grizzlies hired Iisalo and Noah LaRoche Jenkins was alteady on the clock and they wanted to assess and groom those two before mqking the change.

Apparently Wizards were also aggressively courting Iisalo so the FO may have given "a wink" about possible upcoming vacancies during the hiring process...

Hoops rumors had a story where the Front Office forced Jenkins to fire five assistant coaches after last season and Jenkins wasn't very happy about it and the unhappiness leaked out in the media. They also forced him to scrap last season's offense and institute a less pick and roll version. Ja was firmly in Jenkins camp so perhaps he gets moved. Also in their game vs the Jazz Desmond Bane and Santi Aldama got into a shoving match on the bench. Good times with team Griz.

Iisalo is known for his "3 to 3" (when you get the ball, the everybody on the team has to get (at least) to the opponents 3-point line, where fast PnR's and screens are initiated for easy buckets. Jenkins, on the advice of Laroche, did want the "3 to 3" but thought the screen plays are slowing down the offense. It worked well early in the season, but against better team it has been a fiasco the past couple months. Now with Iisalo in charge, be prepared to see Grizzlies run lightning fast PnR and screens.

Man, drafting Cody over Buzelis is going to one of those "What ifs" we blame for not getting over whatever hump we fail to get over 6 years from now.

On the face of it atm that’s a real possibility. I’m still holding onto some kind of Grady Dick reversal of fortune for the time being tho

Houston Rockets are a #2 seed? Really?
Yep. Crazy talented and have so much room for improvement over the next few years. Over the next 5 years the top of the west is going to be stupid good with the thunder, rockets and spurs. Cracking that top 3 may be impossible.

Very real possibility. It's going to be painful to watch when Buzelis turns into a star and Cody probably washes out in a few years. It's kind of shocking how bad Cody is. Give any other scrub the same opportunity that he is getting right now and almost every one would be more productive.

The difference is Grady Dick is good at basketball. Will not happen. A Tony Snell outcome would be great at this point.
