Following potential 2012 draftees

^^^ Good post, chi. We're hearing and seeing the same things. Having said that, we are interpreting the info a bit differently. Rivers is actually a good fit here, imo. Fast, a shooter, heady, winner .. a bit chippy.

With one pick, I pass and go SF. Two picks, yes .. all day.

I anticipate Hayward to keep improving where he will start to demand (not literally) more shots. All our bigs can/will need touches. Then we have Burks, J-Ho (who I hope sticks) and C.J on the wings as well. I just don't see how he fits - unless it becomes painfully obvious he's a better option than Burks outright. I didn't see much of Burks at CU, but I have been intrigued by what I've seen thus far.

We'll see how this season unfolds, how the draft order shakes out and who stays in college and who goes.. But depending on our 2nd pick, perhaps I'd reconsider adding him to our beloved squad.

With the 2nd pick we roll the dice and choose Rivers in expectation he can be a great PG. I would never draft him as a SG .. at least not by the Jazz.

I agree with all of this. As to your comment towards his neg rep in HS...absolutely. And it was well deserved. He was somebody that I was very worried about coming into Duke, in fact... I didn't even think he would be a good NBA player at first, but he's changed my mind. His attitude from the beginning of the season has changed quite a bit, mostly thanks to Coach K.

I always thought he'd be a good pro .. I was actually concerned he'd make a poor college player. Homerism, sure, but I think Cal gets much more over-productivity out of his guys than any other coach. Off topic, though.

I'm just imagining what this team will be like if we draft Miller and Rivers...we'd have a 6'5 PG, 6'8 SG, and a 6'9 SF. Then Favors and Kanter down low. Having a size advantage every night would be so strange as a Jazz fan...but I think I could warm up to the idea ;)

and shooters in the backcourt ..

QMiller with an off day. Playing against lowly Okie State .. 7pts on 3/11 and 1/4 from three. 5rbs, 1ast, 3to's.

Marshall with 9 assists at the half. Very nice. A few too many turnovers with 5 at half .. but that's unusual for Kendall.

I really don't know what to think of Marshall. His passing is simply phenomenal, but there's so many question marks about the rest of his game....

The Jazz, if even have a pick, need to pick up the BSFA. I am in the camp that Rivers will become a hell of a pro. Again, not necessarily because of what I'm seeing in the stat lines, but his attitude. I just don't think he'll be denied. Having said that, I'd only take him if we had two picks.

I honestly think the Jazz need a guard they can build around more than an SF. They can get Hayward or Evans or a FA to play the SF spot, but their backcourt gets outplayed just about every night. They need a PG who can run plays, make good decisions, adjust if the play breaks down and hit a jumper consistently. That said, there doesn't appear to be a potential PG in the top 10 of this draft, so depending on how the picks shake out the Jazz probably should feast on the SF talent in the top 10 and take a PG with a later pick.

I'd rather pass on Rivers. You know Doc will be making some back handed comments in the media if his kid does not give enough minutes or how we are not using him right.

Bill Walton didn't gripe about Luke. Mike Dunleavy didn't gripe about his son either. I don't think Doc being a coach is a big deal.

I know the feeling. Having said that, Rivers was hated before he even announced his school. People saw him as selfish and a ballhogging chucker .. which he was. I believe in the kid and have been stating the same for months, but to think he didn't/doesn't have a negrep is burying your head.

Yeah, I think this was the negative rep that he had--that he didn't want to pass and wanted to force plays one on one.

Anthony Davis had 22 pts. on 9/10 shooting, plus 8 rebs and 8 blocks. ESPN is saying he's No. 1 on every team's draft board.

I watched a lot of the Baylor game today and think q miller needs to be our guy. If the jazz do get a pick I would love rivers and in the second round I am pining for machado.

A dark horse in the draft is Jeff Taylor out od vandy. Tons of athleticism, lock down defender and a growing offensive game. Not saying to draft him in the lottery just think he will be a player in the league.

Regarding Austin Rivers....thought some of you guys might find this interesting. At the least, it shows that he's willing to learn and grow.

"I wasn't mature, and I didn't think the game all the way through before coming in here," Rivers said. "I was just more talented than everybody in high school. In college, there are just freak athletes everywhere. So there's got to be different ways you can separate yourself."

EDIT: Is it ironic that for my 666th post I was propping a Duke player? Maybe Coach K really is Hitler.....

If that is the article I think it is .. (I didn't click) .. it's not a good article for Rivers. He didn't endear himself to fans with his "I've had a hard life" pitch.
