Following Potential 2025 Draftees

There will be no more cinderellas with NIL+transfer portal.
Sure there will be. Guys who get to the transfer portal will make a name for themselves with those runs then transfer. Certainly I do agree there will be a lower frequency, but it will still happen.

For example, the first Butler team still definitely happens under NIL. The second team? Maybe not.

Eh….idk about that. Hayward, Mack, and Howard could be gone before their first run happens.

It could always happen, of course, but it’s going to be all NIL driven. You might have mid majors with big funding and that enables them to have success, but you will not see mid majors who build organically over several years. It will be so hard to keep a team together when anyone and everyone can just leave and get paid somewhere else. Any time a decent player pops up on a mid major the big NIL schools will scoop them up.

Even if a team like Butler was able to keep the team together somehow, the level of competition is much higher. Every single one of these top teams is a super team compared to previous top teams because they have access to so much more talent. They got transfers from mid majors, players who could have gone to the NBA but didn't because of NIL, European players are now in the mix because of NIL, and they also have these super seniors who should have graduated two years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if like half of the good players playing on the final four teams were "acquired" or still playing because they fit into one of those categories.

We are getting better basketball which is nice, but I think the future will look like this tournament where there are not many major upsets.

I am sure the rare Cinderella run will still occur. Honestly, it got so common there for a stretch it may have lost its luster a tad. But it will be much more difficult in the NIL era.

I imagine most of the guys who resemble past Cinderella heroes - Wally Szczerbiak, Steph Curry, Patty Mills, Adam Morrison, et al. - will either 1) declare earlier or 2) transfer up and get paid.

I will say - on balance, it should make college basketball better by keeping better players in school longer. Many of the late-first-to-undrafted-type prospects should have the option to stay in school and make commensurate (or close) $ somewhere, and as a result, at least some will choose to return (more than who would have 5-10 years ago).

College BB felt so watered down for a stretch that I honestly welcome the change. With the exception of Duke (young, but ultra-talented) I look at the rest of the Final 4 teams and see grown-*** men on the floor.

Flagg is just not as impressive as many of the other #1 picks to watch because his playstyle is aesthetically horrific and depends a lot on drawing fouls and initiating contact and getting to the basket through brute force moves.

But he's one of the best prospects ever even though he's not fun to watch at all.

The "what if Scottie Barnes was a great athlete and shooter but still had that miserable playstyle" guy.

Aesthetically horrific lmao.

I'm sorry, but I hate watching this guy play basketball. His playstyle sucks and he has the weird combination of incredible body control while looking extremely awkward that is pretty brutal to watch. He's an elite player and will be a top 10 player in the NBA and maybe top 30 all-time, but he's not fun to watch. No one thought MVP Joel Embiid was fun to watch either and he had the same "ridiculous body control to constantly get to the line, but the awkwardness to be constantly falling down and tripping as well."

His main move is also the "the off arm can be used as a stiff arm" move from SGA which makes Flagg's playstyle look even more like rock fighting.

No need to be sorry. I can't tell you what to enjoy, but to me Flagg is one of the most fun college players to watch ever. Being physically dominant while also being extremely versatile with elite bbiq and high skill level is his appeal to me. He's also not overly reliant on shooting FT's. If you have a problem with him shooting 5-6 free throws a game than you must find just about every elite prospect horrifying. It's amusing, that's all.

What if Sir Harambe of the species Gorilla gorilla (Subfamily Homininae) who was shot to death by musket fire after unexpectedly dragging an immature member of Homo sapiens through the gorilla pen in the Cincinnati Zoo had lived? Might he have been drafted?

He was strong. Potentially a sublime rebounder. Shooting ability unknown.

I can kind of understand the comment on Flagg being boring for a unanimous #1 pick. He's a little stiff and upright vs the type of player you would expect to be as good as he is. I'm not necessarily agreeing, but I can see where that comment comes from.
That’s why you pair him with the player that is most fun to watch: Danny ****ing Wolf.
