Following Potential 2025 Draftees

I guess Tre's weaknesses dont worry me too much.

He has the size to at least be average on defense as a guy you hide on bad players.

Despite not being great at getting to the rim/finishing, he has a respectable FTR. I also think the Texas offense just wasnt conducive to him getting in the paint at a high rate w/ good looks.

Only Ace has a lower FTR than Tre in the top 20+ prospects.

Yeah, it's not a good one, but I wouldnt call 27% awful either. He also raised it to 30% in conference play.

For reference, his star upside comp (Booker), had 22% in college. Mitchell also had a relatively low FTR his 2nd season at 24%. Granted neither of these players have become foul merchants, especially not Mitchell.

I'm not sure how all this translates in the broader picture, but I'm not overly concerned about FTR as long as it isnt awful. I think foul drawing is something that is learned and at the end of the day is reliant on the player being good enough where teams have to foul to defend.

I'm guessing their is a decently strong correlation between NCAA FTR and NBA FTR, but it does seem like one of those things that star players develop over time. Or maybe better said, is something that is developed that can take a starting level player to an all star level player.

I guess the only issue I have with that is that Booker was probably not a good comp for who Booker is, I think that's how @SoberasHotRod put it. It's not impossible for him to be Booker, but everyone looks great picture when you just think about the ceiling and upside. So while it's not impossible, I think it's much more likely that he's headed for a tier down. That's also the case for every prospect, but scorers who aren't elite and aren't great at other things aren't my cup of tea. Even amongst scorers, I prefer a Fears type prospect who gets to the hoop over someone like Tre.

Tre and Fears are on different levels as scorers than Kas, so it probably evens out. I probably overrate Kas because I like his player type way more than the others. As an amateur draft analysis I'm fine with overrating the player types I like though.

I would probably say that Tre is in a different tier as a prospect than Kas/Fears, but because I like Kas's player type way more, I put him in the same tier and I'm still struggling who I like better. Fears is probably in the same tier as Kas, but again, because I like Kas's player type I will always have him above Fears.

To each their own though. I'm ok if I end up being wrong about this stuff.
You had me at amateur draft analysis. It is so refreshing to have someone accept that none of us are getting paid to do this. I love the draft but I too am an amateur. Hell, I don't even get paid to do psychology unless you count sales in that.

I totally understand the player type response. I think everyone has a "type" in everything they do.

This year my type is motor, defense, shooting. With a spattering of positional need.

Technically I do most of my draft analysis at work, so they are unknowingly paying me for it, lol.

That's probably right. Booker/Mitchell are solid foul drawers, but nothing special, and that checks out with their NBA FTR.

SGA/Harden had elite FTR's in college and went on to be elite at it in the NBA.

No, he should just stay in school as long as he can and collect NIL money.
He will be a second rounder this year or next and likely extends his guaranteed money by a year with going back. May make enough between NIL and his first year or two guaranteed deal to set him up even if he flames out and goes overseas or something.

He's announced he's returning for his senior year.
I know. He would be a second rounder this year or next year. May or may not make it to a second deal. Extended his earning potential imo. Will finish his degree most likely as well. Come out of college with a 1.5M-2M in the bank and sign a deal that gets you at least one guaranteed year and you are setup pretty well even if the big money dries up.

Imagine making 10M as a college athlete. How do you move forward? Just put it in the market and be school teacher? Enjoy your summers off and coach?
Start a business with no financial issues if there is a ramp up period. Take a normal job but do so with no financial struggles and a nice living place paid off. Or just straight hang out in youth sports and do camps and such. World is your oyster.

I came away feeling the exact opposite. His off the ball movement is elite for his age and will run defenders ragged. Add in his ability to create off the dribble and you have a very rare combo.
I remember feeling for Booker how many here feel for and dismiss Tre. I’m starting to wonder if Tre isn’t a future multi time allstar.

This is both cool and sad at the same time. I will say though we would’ve had a number 1 pick but we sold it, and that was magic
