Is there anything the Jazz could give the Pelicans to make them give up their swap Rights with Milwaukee? Make it so Utah has the right to swap their Cavs/Minny pick with Minnesota

Milwaukee won't have any incentive to tank, but their roster will most likely not be great. Granted tanking might be so bad next year that they can be a play in team from the pieces they get in a Giannis trade combined with whoever they can sign. Either way, the pick is still likely to be better than the Wolves or Cavs pick.

Are you talking about us getting the right to swap the worst of our picks this year with Milwaukees`s 2027 first round pick? I can`t see how that would be possible outright. I think for it to be legal it would have to be a deal where we get the rights to swap the 2nd worst of our three picks, as the worst one goes to Phoenix, with the best of New Orleans` as Milwaukee`s. As for what it would take, a Collins for Dejounte Murray trade would most likey do it, but that is a steep price to pay.

We can trade with them…but it’s not like we know something they don’t about MIL. No different from trading for a different pick that we think may be good. The only extra incentive here is if you try to move it MIL for Giannis so they can tank. Tanking is a bad move for them IMO.

It would be really convoluted, maybe impossible, and every team/fanbase is wondering the same thing for themselves so it would probably be insanely steep without the assurance of obtaining any value. I don’t think it’s worth wasting the bandwidth thinking about.

I don`t think there is any way we can trade for that swap right outright without Milwaukee being involved.

that’s a no-brainer if we have and are willing to put on the table a budding star to get a theoretical deal over the table. We don’t have a budding star or any kind of superfluous talent that gives Milwaukee something to actually work with.

This is DOA.

Does anyone have any idea which direction New Orleans will point next year? They seem like the most unpredictable team in the league right now. And with Ainge and his love for value this does feel like a recipe for a random and kinda confusing trade.

I think what Cy is implying is that we trade for “the most favorable” of the NOP/MIL pick. It just works like any other pick trade, but the swap must be performed first before the trade.

My impression is that they want to become Bulls west. The owners don’t care about the Pelicans, they care about the Saints. I think they want to spend at least money as possible and be non terrible. They don’t strike me as a franchise who is motivated to do anything it takes to win a championship. They don’t want to tank, spend money, or make risky moves to push forward.
