Kendall Marshall - Our next PG Hope

Just for the record I'm not against drafting Rivers, but only as a sg. As for Lillard I know nothing about him. What's his game is he. A shoot first pass first, can he shoot, does he make others around him better?

It's going to be hard for people to Change my mind on Marshall. I'm honestly convinced his game will translate to the NBA. This team already dominates the paint, just think what Marshall can do to enhance that even more.

I'm seriously impressed. There are a lot of posers here that use the anonymity of the internet to hide. It takes a big person to admit when they have been convinced that their thinking might be different now.

Me too. I was convinced too.

Draft a SF (most likely Miller) and then see who BPA is (most likely Rivers or Lillard).

Done.

Hes a natural scorer, deadly on pull jumpers from inside or out. relatively quick, can beat people off the dribble, uses the pick n roll a lot. for how much he he dominates the ball at weber state he hardly turns the ball over. i think i read somewhere that he leads the ncaa pgs in turnover rate, while being relied on to create on almost every possesion hes in the game.

being a weber state alum, i might be a little biased. but hes athletic, has a long wingspan, has shown the ability to be an intense defender, seems to have a decent wingspan, is shooting 48% from the field -- 45% from 3 (7 attempts per game) and close to 90% from the line (while drawing 8 per game). he passes well at times, and is a terrific rebounder for a PG. i would like to see him on the jazz.

question marks include:

lack of solid competition
lack of focus at times
can he be a consistent distributor

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaatttttttttttt? Where are you on this whole debate? Marshall than Rivers and now Lillard? How does your wife feel about your flip flopping?

I guess that's why I'm wifeless...lol...but I'm still not sure.

For the Jazz offense:
Marshall > Rivers > Lilliard
Defense
Rivers > Lilliard > Marshall

I would not draft Rivers as my SG. I only want 1 of the 3. And I don't want Lilliard over Rivers if it comes down to it.
With Rivers, I see more one on one play...though I've heard he's a willing passer if he's asked to do it. I just don't think he'll be as good passing as Marshall. That's not something you can learn.
With the trend of NBA PG's being more athletic than pass-willing, I can see Marshall being a liability on defense and defensive wins championships.

For now, I'd take:
Rivers > Marshall > Lilliard

But that can change. I don't like Lilliard too much because he seems more like a Westbrook type.

I'm honestly curious, but what parts of his game do you think will translate other than his passing?

On a side note, I am absolutely shocked at Marshall's shooting performance today. I don't know if NC State was guarding him or not, but it's still nice to see. If he could consistently hit his 3's at even a 35% clip, I would be a little more comfortable with the thought of drafting him.

I'm confused as to why you think Marshall is better for the offense than Rivers? Maybe you haven't seen us play recently, but we are in dire need of a guy who can take over games and create plays. Marshall will never be that guy, Rivers could be. This isn't Stockton and Malone basketball anymore, in the NBA today it is incredibly difficult for guys whose only skill is passing to succeed. Marshall is not a well rounded basketball player, no matter what you think.

I know Lillard is getting a lot of attention from the draft, but I really think it's deserved. Lillard is the most well rounded and really does a nice job passing.

Again, it's going to be the level of competition that will go against Lillard. Even with that, I'd take the kid from Weber over Marshall and Rivers. This is coming from someone who couldn't give a rats @#$ about Weber St.

Marshall is better for the Jazz offense because:
A) Passing PG's are always successfull here in Utah...just because of the sets we run
B) We've invested a lot on the 2 young bigs and feeding them in the paint is why Marshall is a better choice. Marshall has 2 young bigs his college team posts up, so he's got much better experience with it.
C) All of our young sprint the court. It's how our bench gets most its points with Earl. Kanter and Favors can typically outrun other big men just like Zeller and Marshall already gets a lot of fast break passes to a sprinting Zeller...it'll be the same story here.
D) Hayward and Burks can cut very well to the basket...more targets for Marshall.

Rivers is a great player no doubt....but he's no facilitator like Marshall is and I just think the young team needs a facilitator on the offensive end.

But I still take Rivers over Marshall until Marshall proves to me he can defend very athletic PG's.

Marshall with the best game of his career, IMO. I usually don't hype one game, but his stock just rose on my board. (that just sounds wrong..)

Got to love Kendalls pure PG skills. What we are all craving on this team .
The only thing is the potential of Rivers to become a star, and clutch shooter.

Hard choice, but if Kendall can play good defense, and be an elite passer in the NBA it's hard to pass him up.

For me that bolded part is very true. The only problem I am having is the Jazz need help in shooting in a major way. I'd prefer a pure PG but only if we can get the shooters to compliment him.

I have spent all this time thinking about Rivers but does anyone think he may not even declare for the draft this year? his stock isn't as high right now as you'd think it would be, so he may stay a year and improve his draft position.

He probably will declare but if he does not hear top 10 top 15 he may pull out by the deadline. Ford has him around 23rd I think. Scouts will see a lot of him between the NC game, ACC and NCAA tournament so things may change by then.

Both played against the same team recently. Marshall did much better (and Rivers was at home, Marshall's was away). I'd still take Marshall over Rivers because I have yet to really see any passing skills out of Rivers, much less any natural PG skills.

I think Marshall will eventually get his shooting to a respectable level and he is a good defender.

If we are actually drafting for a point guard which I think most people think is our biggest need I would go for Marshall over Rivers, however Lillard may upset both of them and go before them.

Why is everyone pigeonholing Rivers as a SG? I think he is a PG. He has a poor-man's Derrick Rose-game.

As for Lamb, not sure why people here are so down on him. He was incredible during UConn's Championship run and since Kemba has left and risen to the challenge of being a primary scorer. He is a more explosive Rip Hamilton.

We'd have to get a shooter too as well. We could go after one to fill Josh Howard's spot next year, and maybe Miles....
We are going to trim some of the fat this offseason, and hopefully fine tune this team to work better.
