What's new

Any chance we sign Wes and trade AK?

If we lose wes, we have no SG. You can sign a Shannon Brown and or Brewer/Barnes/Mason but not sure those guys are starters

If you match it you obviously need to cut salary ala AK or Memo
D Will,Brown,Price
Wes,Brown,Hayward
CJ,Hayward
Millsap,Tolliver or Amundson
Big Al,Fes or Koufus,Okur

You could still bring in a SF like Brewer for cheap and maybe another big and have a more balanced line up with Wes(3 point shooting wise)

Any1 like this idea? Yes Wes would be overpaid for the first year but the other years are a decent price. You would be in the luxury tax but the team would be improved from last year

We would be in the luxury tax double-time.

According to the SLTrib:

With the Jazz still deciding whether to match Matthews’ offer, the acquisition of Jefferson would take the Jazz’s payroll into luxury-tax territory — the threshold is $70.3 million — by itself. The Jazz would still need to add players to meet roster minimums.

Jazz are going into the tax this year no matter what. Question is what line up do you like better

D Will,Price,Brown
Brown,brewer,hayward
CJ,AK,Hayward
Millsap,Tolliver/Amundson,AK
Big Al,Fes,KK2,Okur

or

D Will,Brown,Price
Wes,Brown,Hayward
CJ,Brewer,Hayward
Millsap,Tolliver or Amundson
Big Al,Fes,Koufus,Okur

Yeah, I posted this on another thread. I'm guessing that the Jazz, once they finish up the Jefferson trade, would be more inclined to trade AK to someone who wants that expiring contract, then match the Matthews offer and use whatever room they have left (AK's contract minus Matthews' first year minus whatever the theoretical other team sent us in return) on more depth - be it Brewer, Amundson, etc., and re-signing Fes.

No chance w/ resigning Wes now nor trading away AK. I'm sure Greg Miller signed off on this trade because of AK's expiring contract.
Now if we can somehow get rid of Memo's contract...

Doubtful right now, possibly near the deadline. AK is expiring, meaning he's playing for his next deal, so I expect his play to step up accordingly. Beyond that, we need wing players right now and some modicum of defense; and I don't see another wing that's available that will help the Jazz that's available by a reasonable trade. I suspect if the Jazz are in the midst of a contention push (not just playoff), they will dangle AK and various other bits to a team willing to deal, meaning AK will be potentially auditioning for another team (GMs are suckers for this act, I don't know why.)

All in all, as we've seen this offseason, it's tough to tell what will happen. Jazz went from good to meh to good again in the span of a week. We'll see what happens.

AK 4 Jefferson

Since the details of the trade haven't been announced yet is it possible that we trade AK expiring along with rights to Ante Tomic, whom the T'Wolves are infatuated with, that way T'Wolves can decide to whether or not to buyout AK's contract or wait for it to expire, and for us to add Ante Tomic would be the sweetener of the deal so they would take on Kirilenko's contract? Dallas is offering Dampier but not only that but also Deshawn Steveson and Matt Carrol, but Carrol's contract doesn't expire for two more years, so thats the deal breaker for Dalls, so with AK's contract only have one year remaining it could be possible that AK 4 Jefferson is the deal but not likely.

I know that the T'Wolves have alot of wings already but I would of thought the same for the Trailblazers but that didn't sway them from offering Wesley Matthews that huge contract. Just some ideas because it seems the T'Wolves are rumored to be going after Luke Ridnour currently and don't they already have Jonny Flynn and Ramon Sessions and waiting for Ricky Rubio to come from overseas next season? Maybe they are sending a point guard our way in this deal?

They dont want to take on any players. thats the reason they are trading with us, because we can offer them a trade without them taking on money. We may give them a player like Koufus, some picks, and maybe rights to Tomic.

Yeah, please pay attention to the story before wasting people's time with this. It's been reported by EVERYONE that the T-Wolves don't want to take on any salary. And we know they want draft picks.

I know, but its rumored for awhile that the T'Wolves are wanting to shop Ramon Sessions as well, and maybe its AK+rights to Tomic+Memphis pick 4 Al Jefferson & Ramon Sessions. That way T'Wolves dump Sessions as well. And save us from going into luxury tax land and plus AK's contract is expiring and I am sure AK's contract can be bought out by the T'Wolves for some amount, and we either we bring AK back for a more small amount later when AK can be resigned a month from now ie. Big Z in Cleveland last season.

The reason Dallas ALMOST got Jefferson is that they had the $13M contract of Dampier to trade. It's non-guaranteed, which meand Minny was just going to release him. However, Dallas also insisted on throwing in DeShawn and one other player - at which point Minnesota gave Utah a call.

Ain't it simply Grand (Harrison) to FINALLY have the right assets to make a huge trade.

And now I'm not bitter over not getting Haywood last season. Although it would be incredible to have Jefferson at PF teamed up with a true 5 who is a defensive force in the middle. Who knows, though, maybe we can have that for 10-15 mins this season with Fes and Big Al.

How do you propose they "buy him out" of his contract? I hear this all the time, like a player in the last year of a bloated contract HAS to take pennies on the dollar once traded to another team. Like it's in the CBA or something. Where do these ideas come from? AK's got what, $17.8 mil left next year? Sure, I bet he takes a cool $6 mil instead of the GUARANTEED 17.8 and now has to go find another job......that makes perfect sense. Oh, and Minny loves the idea of paying that 6mil too. Jesus Christ......

I am paying attention to the story, I have been since it broke last night. I've been following on twitter, hoopshype, yahoo sports, and espn insider.

Yes! So they can get out from underneath Jefferson's and Session's deals!

Oh cool, wow I feel stupid........and AK, being AK, decides he'd like to pitch in and be a "team player" and help them do that by donating $10+ million to the cause? Does he ride his magical unicorn to the contract signing where he gives this money away too?

Well once AK is bought out he really has no choice...but I guess AK can go sign with whatever team he pleases...then by all means let him go and go resign Ronnie Brewer to be our starting 3 with part of the MLE.

If buying out AK is so easy, how about the Jazz do it and keep Tomic's rights?

It was just an idea for the Al Jefferson deal, and since the T'wolves were planning on going to sign Ridnour maybe there was more to the Jefferson to Utah deal.

You're literally without clue.......clueless. I'm clearly the loser in this since I'm trying to explain to you that this scenario doesn't happen.....but that's like explaining defensive hustle to CB. You win, AK apparently has no say in the matter on whether he gives away guaranteed money or not.

It's not the first time someone has been bought out from a giant contract like AK's ie. Ilgaukas, Ben Wallace, and etc...you act like it's never happened
