A great John Stockton stat

Here is another great Stockton stat: 15,806.

Just imagine how many more he would have had if he started from the beginning of his career and had better talent around him. I think guys like Ostertag/Eaton and others cost Stockton about anot 1000+ assists.

The only problem I had with Stockton was he didn't shoot enough. When you are shooting 57.5 percent you need to shoot more.

He shot 57.4% from the field that year

I can remember Stockton's response when he was asked about it: "They don't guard me."

I remember watching a game in his rookie year when the ball was passed to him with 12 seconds left on the shot clock and a wide-open 14-footer available. He hesitated, then passed the ball back outside. The Jazz never got a better shot oportunity during that possession and they ended up taking a desperation shot at the buzzer, missing it badly. For the rest of his career, I never saw Stockton repeat that mistake.

This.
Alot of people outside of Utah never realized the talent Stock had at scoring the basketball. He had an uncanny ability to drive the lane, hang in the air and hit an off-balance runner/floater like very few other PG's I've ever seen. The pullup 3 in transition was his trademark shot, and he also could hit jumpers on the move fading to his right (he had that delivery/release from the side of his head so it was extremely hard to block).
Particularly in the playoffs, you would see games where Stock would only have like 5-7 pts entering the 4th-quarter, but would turn it on offensively in down the stretch when he knew the team needed his offense. At times I thought he was pass-first to a fault, but you don't get 15,806 trying to score 20ppg.
