BYU 78 Iona 72

Cougs rally from 25 pts down.
Not sure what Utah will do in their game. :p

Discuss.

My brother left to go play raquetball when it was a 25 pt game. He still haven't come home yet. Is he in for a surprise.

I'm still amazed. I mean, sure, BYU played better and in control in the 2nd half, but Iona just completely lost it. LOST IT. The noose just kept tightening around them and they folded faster than Trout in the poker game.

As for UTah, I think they'll play well, but they'll find a way to blow it.

Craig Cusick is 100x better at PG than Carlino.

Carlino is Monta Ellis. A guy that can catch fire and score. But he has no clue how to run a team. Often, his negatives outweigh his positives. Craig Cusick is Earl Watson. Doesn't do anything flashy and doesn't have much of an outside shot. Don't expect him to score. But he knows how to play pressure defense, control the tempo of a game, execute the offense, and stay under control.

His confidence seems to be shot more than anything. He's one of those guys that you just give the green light to do whatever he wants and hope it goes well, which I don't think Rose has given him. I really think he is playing too tentative right now. I still think Carlino's going to end up as the best all around point guard BYU has ever had in 3 years time. He has a good court sense, despite being totally all over the place right now.

Cusik definitely did a nice job though. Even late in the game he was destroying Machado defensively and got called for some really ****ty fouls that were clean strips. Should be interesting to see who starts the Marquette game.

In the first half I wanted to throw stuff at the TV. In the second half was so excited to see the defense they played.
DeMarcus Harrison was a stud-making shots and closing out on shooters over and over.

Carlino is skilled and athletic enough to be a good player. He just needs to learn the time and place to use his skills as well as improve his ballhandling so he doesn't need to throw crazy passes. Being a freshman who only played half a season he needs more experience. Hopefully seeing Cusick succeed by doing less; he will be inspired to emulate that.

If Marquette has guards as quick as Iona, Harrison should start. Zylstra doesn't have a prayer of guarding anybody, especially explosive players.

What? No pos reps for comparing Cusick to Earl Watson? Come on guys! I thought it was a good comparison at least....

Earl is usually our best PG for doing the "boring" things. Running the offense, getting us into sets, playing good defense, not taking shots but getting the scorers the ball, etc....

Carlino is more talented than Cusick. But I don't think there's any comparison to who runs the Cougars better... Carlino is more of a SG than a PG right now IMO.... Not to say that Carlino won't be a damn good PG in a few years...

My favorite part of the thread: BYU completes the biggest comback in NCAA tourny history and the OP still feels the need to fit a Utah jab into the post.

Obsess much?

Too bad. It was the biggest comeback in NCAA tourney history. Even bigger than when Kentucky came back and beat Utah in the finals.

That was a great game. BYU could have rolled over, but they didn't. They nutted up and got the job done. I was impressed.

'98. Ugh. I still get a little sick thinking about that...

Would -7 you for asking for rep, but apparently I have given out my fair share in the past 24 hours. Someone spot me.

I thought he was talking about the Jazz.
Any time anyone is talking about basketball, and Utah, I think Jazz.

Just a little light-hearted gamesmanship. Were the situtaions reversed, I'd expect a Ute fan to do the same. And I'd laugh about it.

I rememer in 98, after the utes lost in the title game, they had a gathering of fans and players to celebrate what they had accomplished, and all the players took potshots at BYU.
I mean, I was kind of laughing...they just went to the championship game, but they seemed more happy that they did and BYU didn't.

My brother, who gave up and missed the comeback was just really surprised. He got in the car, having no idea what had happened, and turned on the radio to hear the postgame interviews, and he was wondering why all the Iona players seemed so down. It took a few minutes to figure out what had happened. Then he went home and watched a replay.
He was really shocked.

I have to admit that I was this close to turning it off a couple of times. Thankfully I didn't.

Damn...sucks for me I missed it. Oh well, at least I got a sweet cordless drill on clearance.

Neat story.

Perhaps if Utah had purchased some of your bone growth formula, they could have held on to win that game.
