What's new

NFL Offseason

Gerrard is only a 1yr deal but I'm still kind of irritated by the signing unless they are drafting the kid from Texas A&M it makes no sense and still even then I don't like it.
I also want to say Jeff Ireland (Phins GM) how can I put this nicely..... he could stop converting oxygen into carbon dioxide at any time and it would greatly help the Phins as a team overall.

It should tell you what they really think about Smith. Buyer beware with the 49ers this lukewarm. There are options out there still. Hasselbeck would be a very nice fit there for a SB run.

David Garrard is going to Miami. Guess that means Alex Smith is out of the picture there. He will be back with San Francisco. I don't see anyone else who would want him at this point.

David Garrad signed a 1 year, non-guaranteed contract with Miami. Translation: He is probably nothing more than training camp fodder. From what I understand, Miami's 3 year, $26 million offer is still on the table for Smith, so it's not as if Garrard is having any effect on that. Now while I don't see Smith to Miami happening, you should stop acting like it's such a slam dunk. It sounds as if Smith is pretty pissed with how the Peyton thing was handled. The only reason I think he ends up back with the 9ers is because Harbaugh is one hell of a salesman and Smith wants to win (something that's going to be pretty tough to do in Miami).

Personally, if I was Smith I'd tell the 9ers to get ****ed. The orginization gave him a new OC every year of his career and no stability what so ever until this last season. The majority of 49er fans still loathe the guy, boo him at home games, and crucify him on message boards. Then the team goes out and shops for another QB and leaves him twisting in the wind.

I don't think Smith will ever be an "elite" QB. But I do think he resides somewhere in the middle of being good to above average. He's certainly good enough to get your team to a SB with the right supporting cast. I would welcome him with open arms as a Dolphin (we don't seem to come by competant QB's who want to play for us very often).

Part of the whole Peyton Manning/Alex Smith/49ers story is being overlooked. Alex Smith shares the blame for the 49ers showing interest in Peyton Manning. According to all reports I have read, the 49ers have had a contract offer on the table for Smith to sign since before free agency even started. By Smith choosing not to accept it, the 49ers decided to pursue Manning. If Smith had signed the contract, the 49ers never would have shown interest in Manning. The same contract has been, and still is, on the table the entire time. Smith just wants more years and/or money. Jed York continues to say the ball is in Smith's court.

It is official. Manning is a bronco.

As far as a link pick your news source.

Eagles get Demeco Ryans for a 4th round pick. Suck it.

Am I missing something here?

Are the Texans trying to piss of their fan base in one felt swoop by losing Williams and Ryans in the same off-season?

NFL Network is now reporting that Alex Smith has agreed to terms with the 49ers. Not surprised by this news, but glad to have it done with already. Now time to move forward with improving the team for a Super Bowl run next season. Still need a guard to replace Adam Snyder, and maybe another WR in free agency and/or the draft. Looking forward to seeing what's next.

Eddie Royal bailed ont he Broncos and signed with the Chargers. Damn, I liked that guy.

i didn't. They can get a better reciever than him. Guy was unable to get away from defenders and drops the ball as often as he catches it. Decker and Thomas are both better and Willis may be. They definitely need another reciever though.

Do you think the 9ers would be willing to trade Kaep? I would give our 2nd for him (37).

I liked him as a punt/kick returner and a 3rd option WR. Not a primary target to be sure.
