Props to Corbin

I have been banging on Corbin a lot this year. Last night was a very good step in the right direction. I still do not understand why Jefferson was put back in the game at the end, but at least Corbin was smart enough to realize that Jefferson is not a closer.

So, I am giving props to Corbin, for realizing after 40+ games, that running your offense at the end of a game is much more effective then throwing the ball to Jefferson and watching him throw up a 15 foot wheezy.

May the Hayward pick and rolls continue for the rest of the season.

That and the increased role The Four have had as of late. Very good signs and it is why they are on a 4 game streak.

Dude brought Jefferson back in the 3rd when the offense was stagnating and Jefferson stabilized the game. Where the hell is InGameStrategery to bitch about that?

Agreed. I cringed when Ty brought AL back in, and right away we went to him on the block 2 straight possessions. First time he made a jump shot, 2nd time we stagnated when Al couldn't get position, tried to hit Millsap in the high post and then got it back out to Al who missed a baseline jumper. Then we ran a cross-screen for Millsap who is versatile enough to make the defense pay for going over the top, and Hayward hit Sap w/a great pass along the baseline for a dunk, and suddenly we stopped going to Al every possession in crunch time. Hayward and Al ran a very effective screen roll for the clinching basket - which is what we were running down the stretch in LA and against G.S.

That is 100% wrong.

You're right. I meant the 4th. Jefferson went out with a 7 point lead and OKC kept chipping away while the Jazz scored just 9 points in 9 minutes--all but one of those in the fourth. A point per minute in the fourth quarter loses games. Jefferson came back and the Jazz scored 12 points in the remaining 4:37.

Like I said, Corbin came back with Jefferson after the offense stagnated and the Jazz scored at a rate 3 times what they were.

Yes.

If we continue to use Al this way when we need a bucket in close games, he'll be successful. Just dumping it down to him over and over doesn't work, and I think Al, Ty, and the team know this now. I hope.

You are only allowed to talk about Al when he sucks, did you not get the memo?

I just want the ball to move. AJ is an option coming down the stretch but he shouldn't be the only one. IF you are doubled team pass the ball. Don't hold the ball for seven or ten seconds and then force up a bad shot. I think Al has improved in that area but he could do better. I am not going to bitch about any thing because the Jazz have won four games in a row. Right now I have a love fest with the team.

FWIW, either by injury or design the young guys have played a hell of a lot more since the trade deadline. Which was all I really wanted, not to mention they've deserved the PT.

I'm not down on Corbin as a lot of people are around here. But if they give him COY, that's just a slap in the face to Jerry Sloan. I kinda doubt they would actually give it to Corbin anyway, but this is precisely the type of performance where they like to give it. (Team with very low expectations overperforms). Part of the reason that Sloan never got it. He always performed well, but was always expected to perform well.

This. This. This.

I am fine wherever the Jazz end up as long as the young guys get us there.

When the Jazz run more high-screen roll down the stretch instead of dumping it to Al on the left block possession after possession I think we've seen the Jazz have a much easier time scoring in crunchtime. Only ran 2 postups to Al in the final 4:37 and that's Utah's offense executed so well late.

Conversely, OKC scored just 11 points in that same 9 minute stretch. Jefferson came back in and OKC scored 10 points in the remaining 4:37. It's not like substituting Al is the sole reason OKC started scoring at the same rate as the Jazz - sometimes the game just opens up regardless of who's on the court for the Jazz.

Al made a great catch and finish on the pass from Hayward - a FG I don't think Favors or Kanter could've converted at this stage in their career. The 1st-quarter of the Minnesota game before the All-Star break was a great example of how well the Jazz offense can function with Al when he's not the focal point, hopefully we can use last night's 4th-qtr to transition to a little more high screen-roll and cross-screen action for Millsap to diversify our sets in the 4th-qtr.

So what happened that one year when Stockton and Malone left?

Couldn't have said it better myself.
