Following potential 2012 draftees

Debate? I know that I have not been the biggest fan of Marshall's but I take him over Barnes. Barnes is starting to scare me.

Let this be a lesson to every young talent out there. Strike while the iron is hot because you rarely see it work out in your favor. Barnes was a top 5 if not top 3 pick last year and now look at him. The same could be said of PJ3 and TJones. Both were rated highly and didn't help their stock this year, only hurt it.

Why, just because he clanked a thousand shots the last couple of games? :)

I'm starting to think this is going to be a very overrated draft up top and that there's far better value later in the 1st or even in the 2nd.

I've never believed it was loaded with franchise players. I've always said it's a VERY deep draft, maybe through the last pick of the 2nd round. There are very, very few franchise changers (maybe only a couple, at most), but incredible value throughout. That's why I've never been big on combining picks to move up .. unless it was to #1.

I think this article is spot on. Barnes hasn't really improved his game and he seems to be selfish one moment(chucking up bad shots) and then he seems to disappear. I think he was overrated coming out of college and I would be leery taking him at top 3. I still don't see him dropping to eight but he certainly needs to improve his handle, shot selection and his basketball IQ.

I've been against Barnes from day one. What does he actually excel at?

The problem with high school to college then college to NBA is raw talent overrates itself in the earlier stages. Of course CJ Barnes killed his 4A highschool comp. I don't see how it translates.

Yes sir.

So who do you guys think is the guy that dropped his stock the most in the tourny that is otherwise a really good pick. Like maybe he was consistenly great in the reg season, but awful in the tourny and his stock dropped.

Amazingly, most everyone played to, or exceeded, expectations. Barnes may have taken the biggest hit, but even that is negligible. Guys like Drummond, PJ3, QMiller, and JLamb could have done more to help their stock, but nothing to really hurt it. I don't see much shakeup.

Did Drummond do anything to impress this year? I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole. I love Davis. Sullinger is out of shape and not too long--I think--no thanks. Barnes settles and chucks because is penetration skills rate out at about a C- for me. No thanks. Thomas Robinson is a beast and could be a stud but not only can we not get him but we don't really need him. Rivers should have stayed another year and did little to impress me. Who am I forgetting? MKG. Love his passion and defense. I think he'll get a decent enough shot. I wanna snag him. Maybe Lillard or Marshall.

I'd take Drummond even though I hate his laziness. He's just got too much potential (risk/reward). Depends if you want a sure-thing or to roll the dice on upside ..

I'm sorry but how often have guys with that disposition ever worked out in professional sports? Five percent of the time? Maybe less. Not worth it at all. People pretty much are who they are and change very little, if at all.

*sigh*

you are correct.

Well in my opinion Beal and Marshall are the lowest risk picks as far as players we can realistically get. I think those are the two I want the most, unless I'm fantasizing, then I'd add Davis and MKG. Who knows though, I was wrong about Irving last year, maybe I'm wrong about Rivers, Miller, and Barns, but I don't think so.

I find that Barnes article to be very disturbing. He was thinking about his "brand" his junior year of HS? He went back to school just to improve his "brand". He sure as hell won't like playing in Utah, because unless you are a top 5 player, your "brand" isn't improving.

Sad to see the hype machine potentially ruin a kid's career.
