Explosion at Josh Powell's WA home......

Probably nobody could do that but Jesus. But here, I'll give it a go.

Please overlook all this, all disbelievers and otherwise rational folks. . . . .

Let's suppose that all God's children waiting to come to earth and get their mortal SUVs are asking questions before signing up for the deal. "Can you guarantee that my SUV will do wheelies and leave everybody in the dust? "Can you make mine jump higher, and longer, so I can dunk on everybody anytime I want?" "Can you guarantee that I won't just crash and burn?"

"Nope. Nope. Nope"

OK, let's rephrase it on more spiritual terms. . . .

"Will my parents be good?" "Will I be White and Delightsome"? "Will people treat me right"? "Will I learn what's right?"

"Ask them when you get there, see if they'll listen to you better than they listen to me."

"To whom? You're my kid, and you'll end up looking like me, if you want to."

"Certainly not, and neither will you always treat others right. Learn from the mistakes/evil of others and try to do better. I will treat you right, I will over-rule everyone else in the end. If you will give me the faith it takes for me to be involved."

"OK, class, all I promise is to bring you home and give you the you you will choose for yourself to be;, and send you to a place you deserve in the end. Take it or leave it".

Our best pyschiatric professionals who try to understand the things that make us what we are, and how we develop under observed circumstances, probably would agree that being molested as a child by an adult authority figure is a particularly iffy thing to explain. The mind can respond in different ways, with either choice of will or particulars in the circumstance. But it is a significant trend that the abused do frequently become abusers. Kids need good parents, and there are lots of ways we can go wrong.

I figure there might be some reasons if God turns away sometimes from some nations that are getting pretty awful in their ways.

Just no way to justify sending kids into circumstances like that.

And all that said as general caveats, here's what Jesus will do for Josh, and his father. (1) In Brigham Young's judgment, dissolve them into their primal elements, destroy their identity or identiability as having anything to do with Him.

(2) In Pacific Garden Mission christianity, or maybe modern LDS christianity, warehouse them somewhere, give them shelter, books to read, chores to do, and lots of solicitous ministers to go over bible verses with them, to see if they still won't just call out for Jesus to save them from their sins, and make new men of them. . . . . after which they will help minister to the lost and damned of mankind.

I'm of divided opinion about which of these is the torment, and which is the mercy.

But I basically think we are all damned unless we get some help.

Which is why Jesus.

Now folks, back to your self-sufficiency and games.

I stopped reading right there. You seem to be saying that believers are not rational. Correct?

The poor helpless case worker that was charged with protecting the kids is cowering in her Prius trying to make the 911 dispatcher realize that it is a life and death situation for 10 minutes. Pretty sad.

To be honest I am suprised that there is not some system worked out for these case workers to get immediate assistance beyond 911. THis is not the first time a case worker has had violence happen to themselves or their charges.

I'm surprised they think supervised visits at the "perps" house, with a case worker who has no way to protect the kids from violence, is somehow adequate.

Yup. Seems like just a complete lack of foresight and planning from top to bottom.

I've not seen any pictures of the case worker, but I think I've heard it's a female? She either weighs 95 pounds soaking wet or 275 pounds naked. In either situation, she's not able to protect the kids from a grown man. No matter what she does. There needs to be some serious changes to this system.

I stopped reading right there. You seem to be saying that believers are not rational. Correct?

Let's put it this way. . . . "rational" is not an objective comprehensible term in relation to the debates between believers and non-believers. And I think non-believers just need to be respected for whatever "reasons" they have. I merely concede that the entire offering was not meant to pass muster for anyone who doesn't want to play along with the semi- or quasi-religious context, which was meant mostly to be humorous. . . . or rather an attempt at a humorous rendition of some religious themes.

If you are a believer, I can accept that you have a valid point and are entitled to take offense if you wish. It could certainly be that.

However, I am also a believer, and I struggle sometimes when trying to make a case that my beliefs are solidly "rational". I have come to accept that religion is not ultimately based on human reason. Goes along with some reservations about people making up religions in general. I'd prefer to think my religion was something God has a hand in, somehow, "inspiration" or some sort of given grace. I did try to make a point that Jesus represents the ultimate hope. And I might add, He does it without really basing it on ideology, or "reason", but on infinite love.

I agree with the above observations about the ineffective "protection". I bet overworked staff, underpaid personnel, out-of-control caseload, and the innocence of kids. . . . . will all be campaign fodder for more money by the bureaucracy.
No heads will roll, and the caseworker(s) involved will burst out in tears if people start asking "why".

Josh had the authorities off guard, and trying too hard to be following the book. They didn't want to blow their case. It strikes me, in hindsight, that he's spent a lifetime in ControlFreakU, under the special tutoriage of a master. It seems like he didn't need a job to sustain his needs, probably had a spigot in his dad's wallet. Privilege, probably at a price, but something he demanded from others as well. I've known a few folks who believed they couldn't be crossed with impunity.

narcissisitc and psychopathic. And capable of getting judges to give them more than the ordinary "privileges" as well.

I think I just want to feel sorry for the caseworker here.

I don't understand how the kids would still be allowed to be around him after they found that stuff.
Things need to change if police or courts cannot keep kids out of those situations, and if they can but didn't that is really bad too.
This keeps getting more disturbing.

Investigators found the blood of Susan Powell, the mother of two who went missing in 2009, inside the family's Utah home and a handwritten will saying she feared for her life at the hands of her husband, court documents show.

The documents, unsealed late Friday, offer a glimpse of the evidence authorities collected that put Powell's husband at the center of the investigation into her December 2009, disappearance.

They also raise questions about why he was not arrested prior to killing himself and his two sons in a murder-suicide in February.

If he had been in jail, our grandchildren would still be alive," Chuck Cox, the father of Susan Powell, told Seattle-based CNN affiliate KOMO.

Authorities say Josh Powell snatched the two boys -- Braden and Charlie -- from a social worker, who was delivering them for a supervised visit. He locked the doors and killed them and himself moments before his Puyallup, Washington, home exploded.

"Despite these events, Susan Powell is still missing. Her whereabouts, we haven't solved that yet. What happened to her, we still need to work on that," West Valley City Police Chief Thayle "Buzz" Nielsen told reporters, according to CNN affiliate KSL of Salt Lake City.

"My department is committed to locating Susan and bringing a resolution to this case. That's why it's still active.
"

The documents used as part of an affidavit to request a search warrant of Josh Powell's Washington home are also tied to a criminal case involving his father, Steven Powell.

Josh Powell maintained his innocence in his wife's disappearance until his death.

He had said he last saw her on December 6, 2009, after he and his two sons left after midnight to go camping in below-freezing weather in a desert area in Tooele County, Utah. Susan Powell's sister reported her missing.

A month later, Powell and his children moved from Utah to Washington where he moved in with his father.

But the documents paint a picture of a man uncooperative with authorities whose story about the night his wife disappeared changed several times.

They also reveal that one of the sons, Charlie, told a police investigator that "his mommy went camping with them, although she did not come back with them and he did not know why," the documents said.

Weeks later in Washington, Charlie told a teacher that "my mom is dead."

In the hours after Susan Powell was reported missing, authorities said they found two fans inside the living room sofa that appeared to have just been cleaned.

So you have a handwritten note written by the wife fearing for her life... You have her disappear.... You find blood at the scene and attempts to clean stuff up.... You have a bogus story of a dude taking his two young children out on a cold as hell night to go camping.... You have a rental vehicle with hundreds of miles put on it... Powell never really attempts to find his wife, nor does he cooperate with authorities, and keeps changing his story (and can "somehow" never "remember" where they camped)....

Ummmm yeah.

Was there another police department that could have screwed up this case?

What the hell were they waiting for? For Susan Powell's corpse to slap them in the faces and explain exactly how she was murdered?

Defend your boys trout. You had all the answers. See that red stuff on your boys's hands? Yeah, it's Susan Powell's blood and the blood of her innocent children. Thanks to their incompetence, two children were murdered and a man has escaped justice.

How many more crimes are handled in this manner by the WV police? How many more cases are jackpotted away? These folks need to be held accountable (which of course, they won't).

Man, if only the cops had The Thriller on the payroll, this **** would be signed, sealed, and convicted, yo!

Gods, you armchair morons that spout off your idiot opinions as if they're facts -- do you ever click "Preview Post" and think to yourself, "Holy ****, I'm ****ing stupid."? Try it some time.

WEST VALLEY CITY — Evidence collected by West Valley police more than two years ago was enough to charge Josh Powell, a Washington state prosecutor said Friday.

"There is direct evidence, there is circumstantial evidence, there is motive, there is everything but a body."

Nearly eight pages of the first 18-page warrant — which was written to investigate the crimes of murder, kidnapping and obstruction — listed a slew of details that all points to Josh Powell.

Some of the information had not been previously released: Susan Powell's cell phone was found in Josh Powell's car; Susan Powell's blood was found in her home; a tarp, shovel and gas can were found in Josh Powell's car; and members of Powell's own family accused him of lying within hours of Susan's disappearance.
Police found a safe deposit box containing a letter Susan Powell had written to her family ... that said she did not trust her husband and that "if (she) die(s) it may not be an accident, even if it looks like one."

Nicely done WV police.

My boys? Not quite sure what you're saying here, noodle head. I have "no boys", and if you go back and read the thread, you'll see that.

I dare say that I have zero remorse for Josh though. That clown got what was coming to him, one way or another.

Just thought I'd quote this from this thread, just in case anyone here thought that I was defending Josh.

Perhaps it's because people don't have the facts, yet are "judging" this guy by what they perceive. Is what he did the most wretched thing imaginable? Without a doubt. Do you or I or anyone really know why, how, etc? Nope. If you step back and look at it with objective eyes, you'll see that it really isn't our place to judge him (thank goodness) because we just don't know. By throwing out your judgments and opinions, you're basically saying, "I have no idea what I'm talking about, but my opinion is correct!". They very well may be correct, but seriously, they're not.

Yup, I still stand by this.

(seriously, you're mumbling)

A family who lives really close to my parents was killed by the husband last week. Dude shot his wife in the kitchen and his daughter in bed, then took a ton of pills and went into a drug coma and died 4 days later.

Time to turn the screws onto daddy...

Stevie, it's time for you to spill the beans... I have a feeling we'll soon learn where the body is and what exactly happened...

SEATTLE — New developments in the Susan Powell case were brought to light after a lawyer for Susan’s family says she has learned of a witness that claims Steven Powell went camping with Josh Powell and the boys when Susan went missing.

Steven Powell has recently come under scrutiny about his alibi after Washington state authorities confirmed he abruptly called in sick for two days after Susan vanished.
