GS won, but it won't be enough. Detroit, Sacramento and Toronto all look like they're playing for pride...and winning. GS is going to wind up #6.

none of the teams you mentioned have a winning record in their last 10.

i'm not that worried about pride. these are all bad teams. detroit's "playing for pride"? they have lost 6 of their last 10, and three of their wins were against washington, cleveland and charlotte. sacramento's "playing for pride"? they've lost 6 of their last 8. toronto's "playing for pride"? they've won three in a row (including washington and charlotte at home), but before that had lost 6 of 8 as well.

these are bad teams, who occasionally win by accident against mostly bad teams. none of these teams are going to suddenly turn into juggernauts just to piss us off.

it'll be close, but i think we keep the pick.

The new Golden State ownership wants so badly to erase the perception that they are a mismanaged franchise doomed to always return to losing. How epically incompetent would they look if they had to give up the 8th pick when it was top 7 protected? Bill Simmons would love to add that to his article.

There's no way management wants to win another game for the rest of the season. It shouldn't be as hard as it is to lose in the NBA.

Detroit won today

Eleven games in the NBA today, and ten of them could affect the Jazz' playoff chances or lottery hopes:

Pistons at Hawks (more losses for the Pistons!)
Grizzlies at Heat (although there's little chance the Jazz could catch the Grizzlies, so this one only has limited impact on the Jazz)
Wizards at Nets (love to see NJ lose one of their remaining winnable games)
Cavs at Raptors (ditto - Toronto has won three straight and a loss here would be great, if unexpected given Cleveland's status)
Blazers at Mavs (would help the Jazz chasing Dallas into the playoffs...alternatively root for Mavs if you hope for the Jazz to miss the playoffs)
Bobcats at Bucks (only relevant in case Jazz miss the playoffs, in which case they'd want Milwaukee to finish ahead of them)
Hornets at Spurs (who wins doesn't really matter - only impact is that SA's next two games are against Jazz so maybe I'd just as soon keep them happy for now)
Suns at Nuggets (Jazz technically chasing both for playoffs, but two games behind Denver, so better for them to lose)
Warriors at Jazz (rooting for Jazz, but I won't judge anyone who hopes for them to lose this one as this game affects BOTH draft picks)
Rockets at Lakers (Jazz chasing Rockets for playoffs, so I guess I have to root for the Lakers...maybe I should rethink this Jazz in playoffs thing because rooting for the Lakers feels dirty)

So you're saying that the new GSW ownership wants erase it's previous perception of mismanagement and losing by..... losing more games?

I know what you're saying that they would value the pick to help rebuild (as would every team in the lotto) but I was just being a jerk. But also pointing out that losing for a better pick doesn't always work.

They're coming out of this season with a losing record no matter what. Their nightmare would be finishing up with the eighth worst record, giving up their pick to a better team in their conference, only making it more hopeless that they ever see the playoffs again. However, if they keep their pick, they can sell the hope to their fans that next year, with Curry back, Bogut healthy, and their lottery pick, they can compete for the playoffs and only have to give up a late first.

I don't see how they can allow the first option to happen.

I agree .. but I'm not sure about that ^^^ part.

management doesn't play the games, though.

ask yourself this question -- does charles jenkins care if the Ws get a lottery pick? if anything, he might hope that they DON'T get it, just from a preservationist standpoint. he's non-guaranteed next year, so if the warriors pick 7th and get a guy to replace jenkins, then he's on the unemployement line. ditto for six other free agents or potential free agents. another five will or can be FAs after next season, so why would they want some rook stealing their minutes and shot attempts in a contract year?

my brother actually did a great post about this (https://www.jazzbros.com/2012/04/on-tanking/) and basically concludes that most players either don't care or would prefer that the warriors DON'T get the pick because of NBA darwinism.

management might want to lose. mark jackson might even want to lose. but until joe lacob is responsible for setting screens and pulling down rebounds, i think that matters very little.

I'm with you on that, players play to win and to get their next contract, but the situation has to have some effect on their ability to win. They're 4-11 since management decided to tank with the Ellis trade and were something like 17-20 before that. Their schedule is brutal, and I'm not sure they are putting enough talent on the floor to match the pace of three out of four of the pistons, nets, kings, and raptors.

Let's hope spite and self preservation serve as strong enough motivation for the GS players.

I think, we need this 8pick as bad as GS we are not next OKC with this amount of talent, cap space and TME are nice to have but good draft pick is the best way to improve the team long term.

we still have little chance
RAPTORS and PISTONS lose !!!
all we need that David LEE CH.JENKINS and Wrs players have some pride and win 2 or 3 games.

or have an organization be smart enough to know getting an 8 seed and a predictable steamroll by OKC or SA is not what the fans want or what the team needs.listening to Harpring last night is whats wrong with the Jazz, they think if we make the playoffs then thats what will fill the seats next year and they have donr their best job.they dont go about putting something together that long term could win a championship, its just fool the shheep so they can stay above water.last night was the pentacle of stupidity.if you are trying to put together a championship team ,you lose this game against Golden St.,and play the hell out of the young guys, instead Ty is playing the sick and wounded for a winner take all victory that couldnt be farther from the truth.I dont want a first round exit team,it would be nice to build somthing the right way and start kickin butt in the playoffs instead of yearly piniatas for the teams that know how to put a team together.
