Jazz sign Blake Ahearn to a 10-day Contract

You clearly missed this then:

"I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have a problem playing on any other team, so it's not like I'm out of the NBA," Watson said. "Just stay ready and just let my agent figure all the business side out."

From this article: https://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/blogsjazznotes/53787310-62/watson-corbin-tinsley-games.html.csp

It came across as a thinly veiled threat. It was unprofessional, and to be honest it soured me to Earl quite a bit.

That said, I don't believe his injury is deserved. I still like the guy and feel bad he is hurt. I'm just saying that he kind of came across as a entitled dickhole with his comments.

i didn't miss it. i can guarantee you it didn't even register on the riechter scale in the locker room. he wasn't threatening anything, he was just saying that he believes he's a rotation player on any NBA team. and as soon as corbin saw that he was physically ready to play, it was a done deal, a total non-issue.

jazz have talked all year about how amazing the chemistry is, and you really think earl is issuing ultimatums?

Ahearn leaves his wife and new born daughter, who is still in the NICU, in St Louis. He hasn't played since March 19th when he left for the baby's birth. He has been working out every day hoping he got a call.

I like the Jazz organization, and maybe it had nothing to do with their decision, but since they have to pay another player isn't it nice that they find the guy who is going through a life crisis and needs the cash. That is something I can cheer for.

I don't know much about this Blake guy, but let's go with what we've heard so far. Decent passer great shooter, not especially athletic or tall but good enough to play a few NBA games. That does sound like Jimmer, doesn't it.

Now let's compare him with our current Jazz players:

Devin Harris: There is a distinct possiblity that Blake is a better shooter than Devin, but Blake probably doesn't have the speed that Devin has.

Jamaal Tinsley: I think Blake may be more athletic than Tinsley, and probably has a better shot. Jamaal is likely a better passer with better court vision.

Earl Watson: Earl isn't a great passer, and is a rather poor shooter, and isn't especially athletic. So how is Earl better? Toughness? That's all I can think of. Do you keep a player because of toughness? Yikes.

I am not a Watson fan. He's fine as a third guard for insurance purposes, but I don't think he should have guaranteed time. The sad thing is that next year, if the Jazz keep Blake, it'll probably be Tinsley that goes because he won't be under contract. However, if Blake can defend and still shoot as well as he seems, than welcome to the team, and good luck getting time.

Biggest concern I have about his game is his apparent lack of vertical leap. Little guys in the league have to be able to get up whether it is for dunking or just having a good jump shot. If ya can't jump, ya gonna get blocked.

you realize we're talking about the 15th guy on our roster, right? if he's not derrick rose, we'll be ok.

He might be the 15th man from one person's perspective, but when 5 or 6 of the 15 are not available to play that moves him up around 9 or 10 in the rotation which to some people might sound significantly different. #15 rarely plays, but 9 or 10 actually get some playing time.

oh sure he'll play. but my point is that you are never gonna have a roster with nothing but flawless athletes. blake is a skill player -- he does 1 or 2 things really well, and that's his calling card. it doesn't matter if he can't jump over guys. neither could steve kerr and he hit the title-clinching shot in 1997.

I guess cc thought he was being brought in to perform awe inspiring dunks. I guess he has not hear of guys like Bonner or Novak who are in the league for one reason.

If Utah makes the playoffs, can Ahearn be on the playoff roster or does he miss the free agency cut off for playoff rosters?

he can be on the playoff roster. that deadline (3/23 i think) is only the deadline for player to be waived by his current team but still be eligible for another playoff roster. since ahearn was not on another NBA roster, that doesn't apply to him.

basically what they want to avoid are contract-year guys deciding in the last week of the season that it'd be fun to go play in the playoffs and there being a massive team shuffle heading into the postseason.

"Why were you in Erie?"

I was born there and grew up there.

Nice- I was born in Erie, but moved when I was a kid. I have some good memories of Waldameer and the peninsula. That park is a classic.

Waldameer RULES! The Wacky Shack is awesome. That and The Pirate's Cove are ranked on a national list as some of the best rides/attractions in the country. I still love that place....

Blake Ahearn: People look at you and I’ve heard before [that] I don’t pass the “eye test.”…I was in San Antonio and the stewardess asked if I was Matt Bonner’s friend just along for the ride. So that’s the thing I deal with, but when I step on the floor, usually when the buzzer sounds I’ve earned people’s respect. That’s just due to my hard work.

Lol

Jonathan Rinehart:
After further review, @kslshep I think Blake Ahearn has a definite Steve Blake look, prob more so than Jason Kreis. Maybe mix of both

Huh, I thought Ahearn looked like Drexler Sabonis, without the tats.

As I saw someone else mention, he looks like a smaller Jeff Hornecek, and ironically it looks like his game is similar to Horny's game too. If Millsap is hurt for this game he might get some time, but I don't imagine that he'll do too much.

As for his jumping ability, sure not everyone needs to be able to jump to succeed, and if he could jump, maybe he isn't in the DLeague. I am curious to see how good he really is, because as others have said, he may be the next Jeremy Lin (without the hype hopefully)

Watson was a good back up when he was healthy. Don't forget you used to sing his praises earlier this year, and last!

I do think Watson ran the offense well before he got injured. Back when Harris was struggling a lot of us
loved it when Watson was in the game. He is a crafty vet that plays with fire. His big problem was letting his
pride not let him sit out. He was a comletely different player after the injuries.

He's a good back up, but so is Tinsley. I'd be ok with dropping Earl, and signing Tinsley to a 2-3 year deal.
We are in a good position here.
