Following potential 2012 draftees

Also, how does Marquis compare to his brother Jeff? Jeff is finally having a decent season in the NBA.

Jeff assured me that Marquis is better ... but what's a brother to say? DLamb said he played with them and that Marquis was better .. but who was playing harder?

Tough call. Barnes likely fixes the outside shooting. MKG can lock down 3 positions on the floor on defense and is a GLUE guy for a young team.
50/50.

Have we sort of found our own MKG in Damarre Carroll? He seems to be quite physical, hustle guy, determined, not afraid to be in the paint & rebound, has the size, does the little thing that a "glue guy" would do. He's also not known for his shooting but he can surprise you.

He is a very very poors mans version of MKG.

Well considering we basically got him for FREE, and MKG is projected to be around #3 in a loaded draft...

One of MKG's best attribute is that he hustle his butts off, it's something you can't teach.. seems Carroll has that same mentality already.

Scouts say it's rare to find such a high motor and intangibles in a guy so physically gifted and with off the charts bbIQ. The hustle is the icing on top, not the cake itself.

I don't think it changes anything, but MKG was up all night thinking and got up this morning, called Calipari, and told him he wants to stay at UK. Also heard, in the same phone call this morning, that DLamb may return and play a lot of PG to increase his draft spot for next year. Calipari DID tell MKG he needs to be smart and make a business decision and to come back is not the smart move.

In the end, most believe it's just the jitters/butterflies of a great kid that loves Caliapri like a dad .. and he'll announce for the draft today, but thought I'd share.

Can you keep us updated about this throughout the day? I know that I would enjoy it.

I suspect all will go quiet now until noon. The decision of the five guys is streaming live on wkyt.com at noon (MST).

EDIT: Oh, and for those not at work, it's also to be shown on ESPN.

What about those of us that have the TV on at work?

More smoke ... Calipari is, right now, trying to talk sense into MKG .. threatening to tear up his scholarship papers .. I'm starting to believe MKG really does want to go back. I'd say it's 50/50 and even MKG won't know until the words come out of his mouth in 90 minutes.

To the MKG vs Barnes question: Barnes may be better for one season where we don't seem to have an outside shooting threat going into the 2012-13 season (and even then, relying on a rookie to be the threat isn't ideal......especially one that really only shot 'OK' in college), but long term MKG is the pick, and it isn't even close.

Good and valid point, Bodhi.

Neither MKG or Barnes will be an All-Star. MKG could win (and probably will since he is already 3/4 of the way there with reputation) some All-team defensive awards.

I'm compelled to make a quip about his terrible speaking ability. But I can't find the right joke and it is in bad taste (which is commonly awesome).

There's a great feel-good story about his constant struggle with overcoming his stutter. I'll see if I can find the link and share for anyone that may care.

ALSO, the noon (MST) press conference (announcement) has been moved to 5pm (MST). Not sure yet whether it's still to be televised on ESPN. Apparently some parents were having trouble getting to the University in time, so they pushed it back.
