I didn't get what you were going for at first until you said, "white guy"... Ty is definitely COY this year for getting this team above .500 this late in the year while starting a white guy.

You ARE wrong. I know some bloggers in the webiverse have looked into to it and concluded its really only useful to foul somewhere around 5 to 6 seconds to play. Fouling up three with 20 to go is stupid, not smart. Here's a basketball tip for you. Time doesn't come off the clock when you shoot free throws. Fouling with 20 seconds to go is not intelligent.

Yet in that circumstance, it was the right move. Hayward wasn't going to come out. Carroll had outplayed Burks (hard not to. 0-6 with unispiring defense) and was pretty instrumental in the overtimes as a fifth man. Favors had 5 fouls in about 8 minutes. Millsap was the only one that could really guard Nowitzki. Harris over Tinsley was an obvious choice. So the guy you wanted to take out was the guy who went 28-26?

I will take my chance every time a team needs to hit 5/5 3's. You will win 95 % of those games.

I was being satirical (only on the white guy comment because I love Gordon ) I'm sorry if you were offended to the core. You will heal soon enough. The moral of the story is Ty has done a damn good job with a very mediocre team. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a numb nuts.

nah just saying say he had these 5 on court to finish the 4th qtr
harris, carol, hayward sap and jefferson to start ot take out jefferson (he is talways winded and gassed) put in favors until he picks up his 6th foul or 1:30 whichever is first.
then sub jefferson at the 3:30 mark back in then take out either carol or hayward for burks about 1:30. so at the 2 minute mark put in burks again finsih 1st ot.
if second ot ocurs give sap a rest and one of the other guards/sf in same fashion.


also millsap couldnt guard nowitzki for ****, what game where you watching? favors was the only who could decently guard dirk too bad he got bogus calls.

also take out jefferson because his DEFENSE SUCKS.
 
Whatever the record at the end of the season (34-36 wins?), it will exceed the expectations of probably 80% of the posters on this board.

Guess the Jazz succeeded DESPITE having the worst coach, huh?

I'm not a huge Corbin fan, but I'd say he's done an ok job this season, particularly since he had so many young players and no training camp with which to install an offense. And the condensed schedule left him with just a handful of actual practice days; most of the "off" days were actually travel days.

Especially considering our recent FT shooting woes that game. That is only a smart idea if there <5 or so seconds on the clock.
 
funny thing is, if the jazz make the playoffs, corbin will appear on some ballots for COY. he won't win, and he won't even come close to winning, but he'll get some votes. just a funny example of how being too close to a team makes you hypercritical of the same guys that are getting nothing but positive vibes on the broader level.

i was actually surprised to see that, four of the last five years, the jazz have basically played even with their opponents in clutch time. no difference this year, where they have a slightly positive +/- in clutch.

But in this game his defense was good. He actually had some good help defense on layup attempts. Jumped with hands straight up. Caused two critical misses by the Mavs. He also stuffed Mahimi a couple of times in overtime. Jefferson was good on both ends last night. And two minutes (max four or five real time) isn't going to do a whole lot. I'm fine with subbing in overtime, but it's a case by case basis. Last night, it was a case where the five should have stayed in.
 
Even if you date back to the Frank Layden and beginning of the Jerry Sloan era, the Jazz have always taken the "don't foul and take our chances" approach at the end of games when we are up 3. And this is when only TWO free throws were awarded to a player fouled in the act of shooting a 3-pointer. 30 years later and things are the same.
