The Jazz's Big Lineup per Basketball Prospectus.

the majority of people on this board didn't think Millsap would work at the 3. He was just 2short4ballzlolz.

Where the hell are those people? Seriously.

Instead of starting a new thread I will post my question here as this is of the same topic.

I have not been able to watch Jazz basketball for a while now but I still follow the game results. As mentioned by the thread the Jazz is increasingly using MSap as a 3 with a lot of success. Now the question: Is the Jazz's success because of MSap as a 3 or is it because the increase of DFavor's minutes? Ok a third option - both?

Thanks.

Favors.

Basically what that lineup does is hide Big Al's defense, hides Favors raw offensive abilities, showcases Milsap and Jefferson's offense, and gives Favors time to dominate on defense. The problem will be when Howard returns to the lineup, because then Favors won't get as much time on the floor.

OUTSTANDING article!
And even more so, it hides Millsap's lack of length to play PF, where he routinely gets dominated by bigger opponents in the paint. And Favors, when given extended minutes, is also prone to fouls. KUDOS to Coach Ty for this juggling act, and getting PRODUCTIVE minutes out of all 3 guys!!! Millsap may not be able to defend the 3-point line effectively, but he is very physical, has very active hands defensively, and is bigger than most SF, which creates an advantageous matchup for us.

Is Howard coming back this year? Personally, I don't see any need to bring back Howard or CJ. They just muck up the playing time. Millsap, Hayward and Carroll can man the 3 position. I really don't see a need to bring back Raja or Watson either. Let Harris and Tinsley play the PG position and then allow Hayward and Burks to play the SG position.

Harris/Tinsley
Hayward/Burks
Millsap/Carroll/Evans
Favors/Millsap/Evans
AJ/Kanter/Favors

You can mix and match these lineups depending on opponents lineups. Draft Marshall and he can learn under Harris and Tinsley for a year. Then next year with GS pick we get our future starting SF or another shooter.

cus big al has no pick and roll d and when your center cant play decent pick and roll d, guys have to scramble to defend which ultimatly leaves guys open

why are you iving kudos to coach ty. nothing and nothing that worked has he come up himself.
tinsley >>>>>>>> watson, but the injury bug has to force him, even going back to watson when watson came back and whined.
burks >>>>>>>>>>> bell again injury bug
millsap at 3 aghain injury bug.

to say it in a messed up way the injury bug has a more positive influence on the jazz coaching wise

"Necessity is the mother of all inventions".
Many, many, many athletes got their first chance to play a bigger role because the guy in front of them got injured. Never said coach Ty was a BB genius, but he's at least willing to try whatever it takes to win, AND he's got the team buying into it. They ain't pretty, but they are a fiesty bunch, and are staying competitive.
Interesting it was largely FAVORS chasing Orlando's quicker guards on the perimeter, not Millsap, as he defends the P&R better than either Jefferson or Millsap.

All I can think of is Sepanol. But he was right about Kanter being good so whatever. I suppose this is another opportunity for Bluesrocker to dig up a couple more threads.

So excited for Tuesday`s game. And it`s just so....refreshing not having CJ playing.

another reason this lineup is so effective is because we are so weak at the 3... when our most overall skilled player moves to that position, then........

the most exciting thing about Paul at the 3 is the look into the future: no prob with Millsap-Favors-Kanter all together.

I have been calling for Millsap at the three since way before last year. Im tired of watching these so called professionals try to run basketball teams. Sometimes they just get in there own way.

Millsap at the three works. Let him get comfortable shooting threes and theyll start draining regularly. Why dont we start making teams try and compensate for what we are doing, instead of the other way around.

It's like your watching someone trying to solve a puzzle and you know how to do it but you cant say anything. Very frustrating

Millsap is clearly capable of playing SF. He does everything well including dribbling.

To me this a no brainer. We need Favors off the bench yet we also need Millsap in the game. And big Al blackmailed someone so he isn't going any where.

Jazz out scored the Magic 71-37 last night with that big line up in.

On a slightly different note (it still concerns a big), Kanter made a move last night that blew me away--not because I haven't seen it done but because it came from him. In the fourth quarter at the 7:30 mark, Kanter drove to the rim and did a spin all while looking in pretty good control. He either lost it or threw kind of bad pass to Favors, but holy crap, if he can develop this (which I think he can after seeing this; PKM says this isn't that rare), he is going to have an incredible arsenal of weapons: soft jump-shot, good post work (his shooting % is getting better), ability to face-up/put the ball on the floor, and defend. If he can work on his left hand and passing, wow! It really shows how raw he is and how much he can still improve.
