Round 1: Jazz MUST use big lineup against Spurs

Ok, so I am assuming Utah beats the Suns tonight (positive thinking!). With that being said. looking forward to a Round 1 match-up with the Spurs, I think there's only 1 thing that gives Utah even a slight chance to upset San Antonio: Start the "big" lineup!

First of all, it's far and away Utah's best lineup. Whenever Utah and SA have played recently, it always seems like SA has a knock-out punch right out of the gate that Utah just can't seem to weather. Utah needs to start the game with their most effective lineup in hopes to keep it close so they are not playing catch-up all night (and all series) long. Right now, SA is starting Green at the 2 (a 6'7" swingman) and Leonard at the 3 (also a 6'7" swingman).

IMO it's the perfect chance for Utah to start Hayward at the 2 and move Favors into the starting line-up. Let Favors guard Duncan and help out with the Parker/Duncan pick and roll, Jefferson gets Diaw and IMO Millsap can stay with Leonard defensively and probably flat-out abuse him on the offensive end.

It does thin out our bench a bit in regards to bigs, but what good is depth when Favors is sitting on the bench watching SA jump out to a 30 to 10 lead?

Nothing else they have tried against the Spurs has worked so I am in. Also that will get Favors and Hayward more of that "playoff experience" everyone is screaming about.

Agreed. We already know that Parker is going to torch Harris. Does anyone really believe otherwise?

It is going to be tough to do this with the Spurs at Ginobili at the 3. No way Millsap can guard Ginobili. Though that is probably true on the other end too.

Delete this thread until we win.

Either way, I hate to say it but the Spurs are going to crush us if we do end up facing them. Hate all you want fellow Jazz fans. They have our number and probably will until they finally haul Duncan and Parker off of the floor in a wheelchair en route to Shady Springs retirement home.

OMG JINX THREAD! UGH!

I agree about the big line-up, though.

Its simple, when Ginobli comes off the bench to replace Leonard (this is an assumption, I don't know who he will replace), put in Burks and move Hayward to the 3 to guard him. Then Howard (if healthy, if not then Carrolle) can replace Hayward.

This is not a jinx thread and the only way I will recognize it as such is if the Jazz lose and in postgame comments several Jazz players reference this very thread in regards to the loss.

Jinxs are a bunch of BS. Some random nerds posting on a fan forum have no affect in any way shape or form on a sporting event.

Jinx that

are you sure?
watch touch we are all connected :P

While we may be connected it is not in a way that will affect the out come of this game. The Jazz win or lose based on their own efforts. The closest you could get would be saying the crowd at the game affects it. That I could agree with.

The Spurs space on offense better than any team in the NBA - if Utah is going to play extended minutes with Favors/Millsap/Jefferson front court (which they should) they better be prepared to play the perimeter.

Spurs will probably counter by going really small with Diaw/Leonard/Bonner at the 3/4.

The trick is to make the Spurs try to adjust to Utah's big frontcourt and not the other way around. Jazz need to pound the ball in the paint and not settle for jumpers all night when SA goes zone.

Just as important, The Jazz need to use Derrick Favors on offense. Favors has had success against San Antonio when he's gotten touches. Mainly because SA has NO ONE on their team that can match up to him.
