Wilbon: Jazz a 55-win team next year with Steve Nash

I'd like to see our big bangers and Nash on the court.

Man, does that look good!!!

Hell no. If Jazz sign Nash then they go for a championship now and Jefferson is a huge part of that. Picking up Barnes would mean waiting until Nash is retired before making a push. He's not adding at an elite level for 3 years, if ever. If you like Barnes that much then trade Jeffy for him and turn the reigns fully over to Millsap and Favors. We'd squeak back into the 7-8 spot while building for the future.

I'm not sure I agree that getting Nash means keeping Jefferson. I agree, though, that in the Nash-scenario you don't trade Al for raw youth.

I think KOC will make contact with Nash's agent. Of course he will, every GM will be contacting him. But it may be no more than the agent saying, "Steve's not interested." I suspect that Nash would at least consider Utah, as we do have a tradition of excellence that I think he'd appreciate, but will ultimately end up somewhere else, like LA.

I also don't think Kendall Marshall is going to buoy his weaknesses under the tutelage of Nash. I also don't think he needs a mentor for his pure PG ability. Lillard on the other hand is a different story.

Jefferson with Nash makes no sense.

yeah, that's my take, too. (Although, I'm trying to cool down on my anti-Jefferson tirade).
That said, do you agree that you don't ship him out for an unproven rookie?
With Nash, you should commit to transition offense, and you need an elite wing defender to help hide him on that end.

I like the idea of pursuing him more and more.

I agree that Jefferson is not a great pick and roll guy and therefore he won't jell with Nash. However, I am fine with bringing Jefferson off the bench as a strong offensive threat.

Ideally, sure, you get a veteran this or that for Jefferson. But Jefferson makes no sense. Unless he's played in a 7 Seconds or Shaq role, but I still don't see it. Dude would just get in the way. Cut Favors loose with Nash and look out.

I've already cooled on my Jefferson hate. Even with improvements, he still has some glaring weaknesses that I can't handle (putrid defender out of the paint, soft as ****/refuses to get to the line, absolutely no impact in transition on both sides of the floor/slow) and just make things harder with a player like Nash.

You trade Jefferson for Iggy and you've got one of the most dangerous teams in transition, ever, probably. Seriously think about that. There would be ZERO plodders on that team. You set yourself apart with how your bigs run, and Millsap, Favors, and Kanter all do that. If Watson's back, transition is his game as well, then add in Iguodala and Hayward who are beasts in transition, Burks, and whoever else they fill out the roster with is going to be young as well. Making this team a team that pursues transition opportunities is something this team needs to pursue because the roster is - with exception to Al - built to do it better than almost anyone.

I would like Steve Nash just for the bragging rights. What other franchise can say that they had 3 of the top assisting PG's in NBA history?

..just goes to show ya....the Jazz have always tried to play the game the right way! Find the open man, hit the open man, take the highest percentage shot!
